Bones returns! Season 3 premiere

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

3-1-shot.jpg Tonight we finally got back on track with our Bones fix! Now moved to Fox Tuesdays before House (which is a great show worth catching by the way), Bones started the season off running. With the story encompassing the aftermath of the Angela/Hodgins wedding where Booth and Bones were left standing at the alter, Angela/Hodgins work to resolve Angela’s little marriage problem, Brennan’s questionable avoidance of Booth, her attempt to “replace” Zach, a cannibal, a silver skeleton, bald Zach’s return… need I go on?

Not that I wanted to see Zach replaced, but the new guy applying for Zach’s position was likable enough, and seeing Bones put him through the paces, knowing that she wasn’t going to hire him made me feel kind of bad for him. He was really classy by bowing out so gracefully when Zach did make his reappearance. I’m just glad Zach returned right off so we didn’t have a chance to get attached to a new character. And boy does he look strange with the new haircut!

I’m also glad that we got an explanation as to why he was sent home early. I was worried they would drag it out - but I guess I should have known. Zach’s character isn’t one to beat around the bush. I’m not sure he could.

Cam: Why did they send you back from Iraq?
Zach: I failed to assimilate. Despite my accomplishments, I was detrimental to a military team approach.
Cam: You’re very good for our team approach.
Zach: The army psychologist told me that I should question why the Jeffersonian is the only place that I can fit in.
Cam: All due respect to the army psychiatrist, but, that’s a hell of a lot more than some people get.

Along the line of new looks, I have to say that Hodgins appears a little wane with his new haircut. With the short hair and no facial hair, he almost looks a little sickly as thin as he is. (Still a cutie, though.) However, that doesn’t dim the heat between him and Angela any! He says that “cost is not an issue” when the man - is he a lawyer, an investigator? - tells them that it’s going to cost to find who Angela is married to. No surprise there.

And what was with the weird first suspect, actually second, that was into filming his wife’s “dalliances?” Hmmm… The head of the secret service. Go figure.

Cam: You arrested the deputy director of the secret service for voyarism?
Booth: Yeah. Bones in her office?
Cam: That is awesome. And really, really stupid. You’ve got to love a self-destructive man with values.

And of course, there’s still that great repressed sexual tension with Booth/Bones. The whole episode it appeared that Bones was avoiding Booth - which it turns out she was. Kind of. She kept telling everyone that it was because Zach was gone that she didn’t want to leave the lab. No one believed her, and it almost seemed at times like she was also trying to convice herself. However, when Zach did reappear, she was ready to jump back out into the field with Booth. Yet later, she did an about-face when she admitted to Booth that she was upset at him. Not about arresting her father, but for not trying to talk Zach out of going to Iraq in the first place. Not exactly the “we left you and Booth at the alter” theory Angela had, but still not the “I can’t leave because Zach’s not here” answer Bones was giving everyone.

And don’t you know that Booth loved every minute of jumping on top of Bones when he though there was a bomb in the vault?

Bones: I’m curious. In an esxplosion, how would shutting your eyes help?
Booth: Huh? It just does, okay Bones, it just does.

And who knew there could be so much sexual tenstion in a hand-to-the-lips over the top of a cup of hot coffee? Man this is going to be a great season!

Season 3 promo

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

I’m counting the days until it starts and I can all get my Bones fix again! Set your Tivo’s and get ready! This promo makes it look like they have so much fun on the set… which I’m sure they do - you never hear anything but good things from any of them when they give interviews. I’ve always dreamed of being in showbusiness, and this is one show that I’d love to be a part of. (Being surrounded by such great-looking actors/actresses wouldn’t be bad working conditions either!)

Season 3 is really going to be so awesome!

On the Late, late show…

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

cferguson.jpg Monday, September 24th, catch Emily Deschanel on The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson. She’ll be sharing the stage with other guest stars Juliet Lewis and The Licks (whoever that is…sorry for my ignorance if you’re a big fan.)

Aaannnddd, on October 1st, David Boreanaz will be on the show, althought I’m not too sure about the late, late part - it’s going to be at 3:45. Also scheduled for the 1st is Pat Monahan. (And once again I think the real draw is going to be David!)

Season 3 preview!

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

Take a second and enjoy this quick look at the new season of Bones. Starting this Tuesday (yay!), Season 3 promises to be even better than the first two!

If we didn’t know Zach was coming back, this short preview would have me worried… Although it would be interesting to meet the new candidate and just see how badly they did trying to fill Zach’s shoes, because you know there’s just no possible way anyone could be as great as he is in the sqint team! And another cannibal? Should make an interesting case, although it’s pretty gross to have a victim who had their face chewed off!

Emily gets applauded and roasted…

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Wow, did she ever touch a nerve! As fans of hers, you guys probably know already that Emily Deschanel is a vegan and an animal rights activist. Is it any wonder, then, that she had something to say about the whole Micheal Vick dog fighting thing? In an editorial she wrote that’s posted on CNN, she addresses the issue of dog fighting and the mistreatment of the animals. Her editorial is well written, and I can almost hear her voice speaking while I read.

However, you know what they say about opinions… and boy did she ruffle some feathers with this article! I am not a vegan, but I am against cruelty to animals. I’m not against hunting - as long as the hunters are humane and not wasteful. I’m also not against men/women participating in figting-related sports such as boxing, wrestling, etc. - mainly because they know exactly what they’re getting into when they agree to participate. But these are all issuses that are addressed in the 50-some comments people wrote in about her editorial.

I’m not here to start a riot, but I do have to say that the thing that makes me saddest about this whole thing is that we are devoting so much media attention to an animal rights issue - which in itself isn’t wrong - that I wonder how many “people-rights” issues we miss because they get swept under the rug. Where is our public outrage when a sports star is abusive to their spouse or children? What punishment does the population call for when a public figure is caught driving drunk, or worse, hurts someone in a DUI accident? Dog fighting is cruel and should be punished, but are we missing the bigger picture of the degredation of society?

I applaud Emily for taking a stand on an issue that is so close to her heart, but I do wish she (or someone else) would bring to attention that while this is an awful thing that’s happened, we need to be aware that people do much worse things to people.

David - the model of fitness

Friday, September 14th, 2007

mag-cover.jpg Do I really have to tell you to guess which Bones hottie is featured in Men’s Fitness? If you guessed David Boreanaz, then you’re a smart cookie.

In the interview, David shares how he starts the day off with his hour-long workout before his day on the Bones set begins, making sure he gets between 3 to 4 hours of workout time a week.

David also shares that in his spare time, he’s a big fan of The Office, as well as AMC, TCM, Sports Center and the NFL network. He shares the spotlight in the article with Omar Epps from House. Not bad competition!

Emily’s vegan cookies

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

Thanks to CNN.com’s Living section - they have an article where various stars share their favorite recipes. Our favorite forensic anthropoligist, Emily Deschanel, shared a cookie recipe.

Brennan Breadworks’ Vegan Cookie — makes 6 dozen

“There’s something so easy about these cookies,” says Deschanel.

1½ cups rolled oats
1¼ cups spelt flour
1¼ cups oat flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup maple syrup
1 cup canola oil
1 tsp vanilla
1½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1½ cups chopped walnuts

Heat oven to 325 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

In medium bowl combine rolled oats, spelt flour, oat flour, salt and baking soda.

In large bowl whisk together maple syrup, canola oil and vanilla. Stir dry ingredients into wet ingredients. Fold in chocolate chips and walnuts.

Mound dough by level tablespoonfuls onto baking sheets. Bake 11-13 minutes or until evenly browned. Cool on baking sheets for 3 minutes. Transfer to wire rack to cool completely.

Emily is also quoted as saying, “In the summer it’s important not to work too hard on preparing food. The important thing is to spend time with friends and family outdoors while you can.” Words of wisdom!

Hail, hail, the gang’s all here…

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

Check out this snippet from 411mania’s post - I love to see what my old friends from the Buffyverse are up to these days. I sadly miss BtVS and Angel, but I guess I can get my fix through other shows… I’ll never get over James Marsters playing Brainiac on Smallville - where he posed as Professor Fine. There was an episode about a “vampire soririty” that Lana got involved in and when Clark was talking to P.Fine about it, he had a line that said, “There’s no such thing as vampires…” I love it!

Anyway, check out where we can see some of the other old favorites. (Of course we already know where to find David…)

The web site for James Marsters, best known for his portrayal of Spike on both Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel, has confirmed that he will join the cast of Without A Trace this fall in a recurring role as a new member of the investigation team brought in to help with a human trafficing ring.

Best. News. Ever. Ok, not ever, but anything that gets Marsters back on TV on a regular basis is reason for celebration, even if I still have not gotten used to hearing him speak in his actual voice (i.e. no British accent). Without A Trace, which I have enjoyed in reruns on TNT, immediately jumps to Season Pass status. With Marsters new job, David Boreanaz enjoying major success on Bones, Alyson Hannigan being a riot on How I Met Your Mother, J August Richards on the Steven Bochco’s new TNT series, Charisma Carpenter guesting on Greek in what could become a recurring role, and Nathan Fillon joining Desperate Housewives, it’s a great time to be a citizen of the Whedonverse. Now we just need to get Andy Hallet some work and all will be right with the world.

Oh, and we can’t forget Vincent Kartheiser, who played Angel’s son Connor. He’s now playing in the series Mad Men.

Friend to the animals, Emily hosts 2007 Gala

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

farm-gala.jpg This Saturday, September 8th, Emily will be hosting the 2007 Farm Sanctuary Gala. They will be celebrating 21 years of “rescuing and protecting farm animals.” The Farm Sanctuary is an organization that “combat the abuses of industrialized farming and to encourage a new awareness and understanding about “farm animals.”"

Bones is HOT!

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

Literally! Monday, a fire brought filming to a halt when a piece of electrical equiment set fire to a piece of material. Fortunately, a production assistant was able to put the fire out before any severe damage was done, and filming was able to resume the same afternoon.

Talk about starting the new season out right - isn’t the saying supposed to go that you go out with a blaze of glory?

Bones at the Teen Choice Awards

Although Emily was beat out by Heroes Hayden Panettiere, it was great that she made the list! Here are a few shots of our Bones representatives at the Teen Choice Awards.

About Watching Bones

Who doesn’t love forensic anthropology? Okay, so maybe not, but throw in David Boreanaz and an FBI agent and former sniper along with Emily Deschanel as anthropologist-by-day and best selling author-by-night, as well as other awesome cast members TJ Thyne, Micheala Conlin, Tamara Taylor, and Eric Millegan, and you’ve got a mix for an awesome show. That’s just what you get with Bones. A crime drama that has great wit, great writing, and obviously a great cast; Deschanel’s character Temperance “Bones? Brennan is socially illiterate, although brilliant, and balances out Boreanaz’s character Agent Seeley Booth as they work together to solve sometimes years-old murders. Backed by the “squints? at the Jeffersonian Museum, this team is unstoppable, but it’s the people and the relationships that really make the show. Don’t miss a minute of it!
