Bones news from Ausiello

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

Check out some of the latest news from Ausiello over at EW - he’s got some pretty interesting news!

Question: Is Zack ever coming back to Bones? — Daly
Ausiello:
According to exec producer Hart Hanson, yes. “We definitely want to have him back,” he says. “But you risk picking that scab too much and people going, ‘Aw, bring Zack back forever.’” Meanwhile, Hanson says the rotating intern experiment has an expiration date. “We don’t to do the Murphy Brown thing,” he says. “But we’re getting a lot of good stories out of these new people coming in and shaking things up in the lab.” Two more interns are on the way, including a devout Muslim (played by Pej Vahdat) and someone who is hearing impaired (not yet cast).

Question: When will Angela’s girlfriend, Roxie, be off Bones? I think she was a terrible add-on to the this season. — Jessie
Ausiello:
Based on this next clue, I think the end is near: The new Muslim intern I mentioned above makes Angela a soothing mix tape after her heart is broken by Roxie. Coincidentally, Hart Hanson tells me that the Angela/Hodgins love story is not over. “We’re not done with them,” he says. “But they have some obstacles to overcome.”

So the news about having Zack back isn’t anything new, but we’re going to be seeing two new interns, one of which may have a thing for Angela - which isn’t a surprise in itself! Remember the British intern who “vroom-vroomed” her? And… Hurray!!! They’re not done with the Angela/Hodgins relationship! I know, I know, that doesn’t mean we’ll see them back together or even walking down the aisle now that she’s officially divorced, but I’m SO glad to hear that they’re not going to just leave things as they are right now. And obstacles - well, those are always good!

The Skull in the Sculpture clips

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

It’s here it’s finally here! We’re back on schedule with Bones, and tonight we’ll get to see the long awaited episode where we meet Roxie! Check out the quick promo clip below:

Not nearly long enough for me, but I guess I’ve only got a few more hours to wait until we can see the whole thing. Oh yeah, and remember how I said that supposedly Roxie had kept a piece of revealing picture of Angela? And how we’d probably not get to see it? Well, turns out that we kind of do. Kind of. And it’s not so much a picture (as in photo) as it is a piece of artwork. (Guess I should have figured that one out…) It’s beautiful, and I’m very please with how they did the shot - nothing too racy, and very tasteful. And I’m SO happy they didn’t hide it from us and just tease about what it was. That would have been really crappy.

SO, on that note, if you want to wait and see it all in the show - DO NOT WATCH the following clip! If you’re like me and just can’t stand it, watch on…

A look into Angela’s head from The Skull in the Sculpture

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

Poor Sweets. When oh when are they going to get him a girlfriend? One he can connect with - one who’s not annoying? For a show that’s “all about the relationships” they sure don’t seem to want anyone to have any! (That’s not a complaint, just an observation.) Angela and Hodgins - sure they were together for a while, our trophy couple of the lab. But look where that ended up. (Still very unhappy about how that turned out, by the way.)

Bones has had various relationships, but none that have stood the test of time - the longest I remember was Sulley, and he sailed off into the blue, without her. Booth - has he even had a relationship in the 4 seasons we’ve watched? I forget. (And Parker’s mom doesn’t count…) Cam seems to just get the leftovers (think Birimbau), and Zack did have a date once, (remember that she was supposed to be the front half of the cow at Halloween? Or was it the back…?) but I don’t know that that counts as a relationship.

So, it’s always interesting to get a look into what makes these guys tick, and why some of their relationships do or don’t work. This is a short, very funny, very sad (for Sweets) clip from the newest episode - The Skull in the Sculpture - of a look into Angela’s world. It’s not so much about the relationship as a while, but relationships and how sex factors into them. Very good insight into how Angela ticks and what makes her who and how she is…

A look at Angela and Bones friendship with Michaela Conlin

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Here’s a brief video interview with Michaela Conlin about her character, Angela, and the relationship she shares with Bones. In a show that consistently on relationships, I thought this was a good look at one of them. Also, so much importance is put on the Booth/Bones relationship, and until previously on the Angela/Hodgins relationships, that this one kind of gets the short end of the stick. (At least I think so.) Not that the writers don’t do it justice - I think the relationship is very well written, but I just think we don’t pay as much attention to it as to some of the other relational dynamics on the show.

I like how Michaela has pointed out how Bones and Angela have a genuine friendship, even if it does seem one-sided at times since Bones is so logical. (Remember the “help” she gave when Angela came to her about not knowing how to act around Hodgins - yeah, that’s what I’m talking about!)

Anyway, enjoy the clip!

Inconsistencies in Angela and Hodgin’s breakeup

Friday, September 12th, 2008

I really liked Wendy’s observations about the Angela/Hodgins breakup in the season premiere. She really nailed some of the issues I had with the whole storyline and how it played out. However, I was re-watching a few episodes I’ve got saved on my media center in order to erase them to make more space, as well as trying to see any signs that may have been there of Zack’s reality break. There was something else I noticed that stuck out and kind of added to my frustration about the whole breakup.

In the episode The Soccer Mom in the Mini-Van (originally aired Oct. 2007), a bomb squad expert from the FBI comes to the lab to “help” and Hodgins - who’s in a newly begun relationship with Angela - is tripping over himself and practically drooling over this woman. (They actually took a moment to focus the camera on her cleavage to make the point.)

Special Agent Frost walks in in her smart and very attractive business suit and knocks Hodgins over. It’s like he looks up and sees only breasts. Booth tells him that she’ll be working with him, and his introduction to her goes as follows:

Hodgins: Yes please. What? No. Um. Hmm? JHodgins. D,d, doctor. We’re, okay.
Frost: I beg your pardon?
Angela: He’s Dr. Jack Hodgins. Angela Montenegro. I do facial reconstructions. And him.
Frost: Pleasure to meet you.

And just who is Roxy?

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Season 4 is shaping up to be a fantastic season. The promise of meeting Angela’s husband, seeing Hodgins in a fight with him, the continued Booth/Bones romance, and seeing how the team deals with not only Zack’s break from reality and being locked up but the presence of a continual stream of new interns - well, it certainly shouldn’t be dull!

But, there’s one more twist that we have to look forward to this season. At Comic Con, it was revealed that another one of Angela’s relationships will come back to haunt her and put yet another obstacle between her and Hodgins. So what’s so fantastic about that you ask? The past relationship just happens to be an ex-girlfriend named Roxy.

Here’s a quick clip shot from someone in the audience - not great quality by any means, but here it is as those attending got to see it…

If you remember, we were “introduced” to Roxy by the PI Angela and Hodgins hired last season to track down Angela’s husband. While gathering info on the couple, she dug up info on Angela from “a girl named Roxy, whose heart you broke in second-year art school.” I don’t know about you, but even though I heard this in the episode, since the focus was on finding Angela’s husband, I didn’t give it too much thought, so it should be interesting to see this little tid-bit of info come back to bite Angela in the butt. I wonder if it was the PI’s quest for info about Angela that stirred up all those long-hidden feelings that has caused Roxy to resurface after all this time…

As of right now, casting hasn’t been made known; same about the “when” of her appearance. Guess we’ll just have to wait and watch to see!

Did Iron Man rip off Angela?

Monday, July 28th, 2008

I absolute loved the movie Iron Man. Oddly enough, I went to see it with my mom and sister - it was the only one we could all agree on for some reason. However that worked out, it was awesome. I’ve always waffled on my opinion of Robert Downey Jr., but this movie may have just converted me for good. Anyway, I could go on and on about the movie, but that’s not what this post is supposed to be about…

Okay, so what’s the relevance to Bones? Well, I probably would have never noticed it myself, but TV Guide’s Rochell D. Thomas brought up an interesting question in one of her recent articles. Don’t worry, if you haven’t seen the movie but still want to, this won’t ruin anything for you. (And if you haven’t seen it and don’t plan to, I highly recommend you rethink that decision.)

Thomas pointed out that in the designing and production of the Iron Man suit, “the same 3-D, holographic computer imaging table that squint Angela Montenegro “created” for the Medic-Legal Lab on Bones” is used. Hmmm, very interesting. Now I’ll have to re-watch the movie just to see Angela’s creation in action!

Who’s the new guy with Angela?

Monday, July 14th, 2008

We all know that Angela and Hodgins are hard at work to secure a divorce from Angela’s husband as a result of a hot tropical vacation, but what we don’t know other than the brief descriptions we’ve been given, is who he is. Well, it looks like we won’t have to wait too long to find out. The character, or sorry, Grayson Birimbau - aka Mr. Angela - has been cast.

Sean Blakemore is scheduled to play the lucky guy - or not so lucky depending on how his encounter goes with Anglea after all these years. Hart Hanson said about the casting that “We’re gonna find the best guy in the world for Angela. Whoever we finally cast, Jack has to be completely and utterly cowed when this guy finally walks in.”

The guy seems to have it made - his character is described as “kind and brilliant, and hot and rich to boot,” which gives Hodgins not much up on him. Sounds like they’re pretty well evenly matched… Guess we’ll have to wait and see who Angela chooses.

Funny thing is that Michalea Conlin revealed in an interview recently that they were looking for someone like Djimon Hounsou to fill the shoes of her husband. In walks Sean Blakemore. I can’t speak for acting ability, but I do have to say Blakemore fits the bill for me better.

One of the interesting things to see with this new twist will be not only how Angela/Hodgins deals with the shake up, but how it holds the audience. With many fans still seething over the season finale, will it help or hurt those who are on the fence about whether or not to continue watching? Regardless of the crappy way Zack was written off, the show is still great, so hopefully this will only prove to be another redeeming storyline in an already-mostly-great show.

Hodgins said what?

Monday, May 5th, 2008

I can’t even begin to imagine how these people get their hands on the info they do - I crawl the web as often as my 15-month-old will let me for new scoops, but apparently I’m not looking in the right places (or I don’t have the right connections.)

The Bones Spoilers on LiveJournal have a slew of spoilers posted (hence the name), but on that they’ve got is just too good not to share. So, here goes:

spoiler-alert.jpg

Looks like some of the lines from the upcoming The Finger in the Nest has been leaked, and these guys were kind enough to share. One of the lines for TJ Thyne’s character Hodgins is: “First, my best friend who used to work here, with me, he got into some big trouble and… he’s locked up now and I miss him…”

emillegan.jpg

Okay, we can assume he’s talking about Zach since we already know that Bones is getting a new grad student. But what’s he locked up for? Some of the speculation on the boards is that he’s Gormagon, but I don’t buy it. I’m going to guess it has something to do with the time he spent in Iraq - we never did get the full story on why he came home like he did. I don’t think he was a deserter or anything, and I don’t expect it to be anything huge, but who knows, I could be seriously surprised. And with awesome writers like the show has, I’m sure the way it pans out will be great.

Also, later he also says: And Angela - you know Angela, she and I used to - we were engaged to be married, and well, that went south, too.

I don’t know what to think about this one. If you believe Ausiello, we’ve been promised more kissing - but not necessarily from Bones/Booth, so I assumed it was the Angela/Hodgins deal. Maybe not? But really, can you see the writers breaking up our only satisfying relationship on the show? Oh well, guess we’ll have to wait and see! What agony!

About Watching Bones

Who doesn’t love forensic anthropology? Okay, so maybe not, but throw in David Boreanaz and an FBI agent and former sniper along with Emily Deschanel as anthropologist-by-day and best selling author-by-night, as well as other awesome cast members TJ Thyne, Micheala Conlin, Tamara Taylor, and Eric Millegan, and you’ve got a mix for an awesome show. That’s just what you get with Bones. A crime drama that has great wit, great writing, and obviously a great cast; Deschanel’s character Temperance “Bones Brennan is socially illiterate, although brilliant, and balances out Boreanaz’s character Agent Seeley Booth as they work together to solve sometimes years-old murders. Backed by the “squints at the Jeffersonian Museum, this team is unstoppable, but it’s the people and the relationships that really make the show. Don’t miss a minute of it!
