Happy Birthday John Francis Daley!

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Wow, these guys make me feel old… John Francis Daley turned 24 today! I knew he had a sweet baby-face, but I didn’t remember that he was really that young… Pretty successful for his age too, but with so much talent, I’m sure no one is surprised!

This is an OLD interview, but it talks about some of his experience - on previous shows, in the movie business, and in music. Like I said, talented - and seems genuinely nice and down to earth.

Happy Birthday kiddo! Hope it’s a good one!

The Salt in the Wounds

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Untitled-1

Tomorrow night get ready for a salty treat from Bones! Ugh, I know, really bad… The episode, The Salt in the Wounds, finds the corpse of the week to be Ashley, a high school student, and volleyball player, who has been missing for three weeks. Her body is found buried in salt in a de-icing truck. The victim is not only petrified but turns out to have been pregnant at the time of her death (wonder if that will make this a double homicide?). During the investigation, the squints are surprised and the press gets involved when it appears that there is a “pregnancy pact” going on with the girls volleyball team since almost half of the teammates either are currently or have been pregnant.

As a side-note to the main event, we’ll also see how things are going between Angela and Roxie (I’d kind of thought that relationship had been dropped since it’s been so long since we’ve heard about her, but then again maybe I just wasn’t paying attention…). As they discuss getting a dog - which I thought was kind of weird, Angela doesn’t strike me as a dog-owning kind of person - the issue brings up other issues for them to deal with.

Looks like a good one to me. I always enjoy watching the dramatization of the whole teen-angst sort of thing. And am so glad I’m not there any longer. Don’t ever want to relive it…

Wonder who our squint of the week is going to be? The rotating interns are kind of growing on me. Never thought I’d say that! (Still miss Zack though.)

More Booth background to come!

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Untitled-1

After the episode was over and it was revealed that the introduction of Booth’s little brother wasn’t going to push a wedge in between Booth and Bones, I came to decide that I really liked meeting the younger Booth. He gave us some insight into Booth’s background that helped flesh out who he is a little better. I’m enjoying getting to know some of the characters even more - beyond their relationships with each other that is. And now it looks like we’ll get to find out even more about Booth’s growing-up years as we get to meet Booth’s father and possibly grand-father in upcoming episodes.

According to TV Guide’s William Keck, we will meet Booth’s dad later this season. He is an “ex-military man-turned-barber” and we should probably expect some tension if not some fireworks with the introduction of his character. During sessions with his therapist Dr. Gordon Wyatt (Stephen Fry - yay he’s back!), Booth finally opens up. Have to say I’m surprised to hear that! We learned previously that Booth’s father was an alcoholic and was apparently abusive since Booth would take care of his younger brother Jared. David Boreanaz says “Booth’s father had some issues. We’re going to find out more about how painful it was for me growing up with that man. My grandfather was a much nicer person.”

james-garner1

Booth’s grandfather should also be an interesting addition to the Bones cast - even if he is around for only an episode or so. There’s no official word as of the latest TV Guide info on who will be playing grandpa, but Hart Hanson said that James Garner topped his wish list, which he actually revealed to us in the panel the Bones cast/crew participated in at the Paley Center. Grandpa is a fighter-pilot hero and even saved Booth’s life at one point. Guess we’ll have to wait until his appearance in late April to find out what the story there is…

I’m sure it will be worth the wait!

A Booth/Bones hook-up is official!

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Untitled-1

It has finally been confirmed - in writing - that a Booth/Bones hook-up is coming! And it’s going to be for real, meaning no dream sequence, no drug-induced lapse in judgment or anything else other than absolutely, for-real, two consenting adults together in bed. In bed meaning actually having sex.

We’ve been teased for what seems like forever of whether or not Booth and Bones would ever get together, and after their kiss last Christmas, we’ve all been wondering when the writers would stop pulling our chain. When they introduced Booth’s little brother, we were concerned. That budding romance was quickly snuffed out (in the very same episode it began!) but we were still left with the ultimate question: will they or won’t they? And if they do, then when?

boothbones-1

Well, it looks like we won’t have to wait too much longer. TV Guide’s William Keck tells us that he spoke with Hart Hanson, the show’s creator, that this year’s season finale we will get to find out that Booth and Bones are “actually in bed having sex. And they won’t be able to just walk away from what happened. It will have serious ramifications.”

I’ll say! After four seasons of their parry and thrust routine, dancing around the issue and making it obvious to everyone around them (including Bone’s own father - who came right to the point with Booth and asked him why he wasn’t sleeping with his daughter!) there’s no way they could just sleep together and then pretend it never happened.

Looks like we’ve got one heck of a season finale coming up… I just hope that their physical connection doesn’t wreak havoc on their working relationship! But hey, they’re two intelligent adults (and the writers are good) so hopefully it will only add to the show…

Emily Deschanel’s little sister engaged!

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Looks like Emily Deschanel may need to carve out some time in her busy schedule to help her little sister plan a wedding! Zoey Deschanel, 28, is recently engaged to Ben Gibbard, 32. Gibbard is the singer for Death Cab for Cutie and a musician with Postal Service.

Congrats to the happy couple! And check out that ring! It’s gorgeous! It’s by “star jeweler” Neil Lane. Beautiful work…

Win a role on Bones!

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

What would you be willing to do for a chance to win a role on Bones? Well, if that’s something you’d be interested in, this is your lucky day! Starting yesterday and running through February 16th, there is an online contest where you can enter to win a role on Bones. What’s the catch? Well, it’s not a “submit your name and hope for the best” kind of deal. Instead, there is a snippet of a script provided that you are to re-enact and video. Once you upload your video entry to the site, people can go online and vote for you - one vote per day per person.

So far there is 29 entries, and you can go check them out to see what kind of competition you’re up against. You must be 18 or older to enter, but there are not other restrictions. The winner will be flown to Los Angeles for the show. Pretty cool!

Looks like the script that you’ll have to re-enact is from The Crank in the Shaft. It’s a scene between temporary squint Fisher (the gothic, depressed guy) and Cam as they examine the skeleton of the woman pushed into the elevator shaft.

Looks like most of the entries so far average about a minute and a half, with only a few over two minutes, so it doesn’t need to be anything incredibly involved. If you decide to enter the contest, you’ll have to let me know so I can go check out your entry. Go on, what do you have to lose?! Good luck to you all and may the best Bonesian win!

Bones December schedule

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

Well, looks like we’ve got at least a month before we get another new Bones episode, so I hope you enjoyed last week’s episode with Bone’s dad! For the month of December, we’ll have to make due with reruns. At least starting Wednesday the 10th. This week, we don’t get any Bones - the new show “Secret Millionaire” will air instead.

Starting next week, we’ll get to see reruns of: The Man in the Mud on Dec. 10th, The Crank in the Shaft on Dec. 17th, and - to get us ready for the Christmas holiday, The Santa in the Slush (you remember, the first Booth/Bones kiss episode!) on Dec. 24th.

In case you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t seen it already and don’t want your illusions of Santa Claus ruined, you may want to skip out on The Santa in the Slush rerun… although there is a very heartwarming Brennan-family scene that may just be worth facing your question of if Santa really does exist.

Bones giveaway!

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Hey guys, just wanted to make sure you were aware of a giveaway of Bones “stuff” - a Bones mousepad and a screen squeegee with retractable keyboard brush (SO squint-esque!) - over at Lynn’s site! She’s taking entries up until midnight Halloween - that’s just until tomorrow - so don’t miss out!

All you have to do to enter is write a comment on that particular post, and you can enter once a day. In your comment, please note why you think you should win these awesome “squint tools.” (I don’t think I’ve ever seen a screen squeegee, that’s kind of cool in a really geeky kind of way.) She will randomly choose a winner and they will be notified soon thereafter.

(Please note that unfortunately entries are limited to the US and Canada.)

Bones on hiatus

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Well, it’s that time again. Baseball. Yippee. Can’t you tell how excited I am about this? (Sorry for you baseball fans out there… but if it’s any consolation, I’m going to have to get interested in some kind of sport considering my kid absolutely LOVES balls of any and all kinds - which I’m sure means he’ll be into various sports as he grows up.)

So instead of watching Bones for the next few Wednesdays, maybe I”ll actually get a chance to either 1-do some of the stuff around the house that’s been neglected (nah!), 2-catch up on some of the other shows that we’ve recorded but not watched (nope, our toddler will still be up), or 3-do the usual and be “mommy” until said toddler goes to bed, then try to cram in a few episodes of said shows not watched - and it looks like #3 it is!

So, enjoy the reruns of Bones on TNT, and maybe you can re-watch some you’ve got saved on your TiVo or Media-center. Or, I guess if you are actually a fan of baseball, you can always catch the show tonight - MLB Playoff:Game 5: Phillies at Dodgers. Next week will be Game 1 of the World Series (again, instead of Bones), and the week after that is currently scheduled to be reruns, although we’re supposed to get at least two hours of reruns. Woo-hoo. (The Man in the Outhouse and The Finger in the Nest if you can depend upon TV Guide’s schedule.)

So, hang in there, just a few more weeks until Bones is back on with new episodes. Hey, at least it’s not another strike!

Catholics take issue with the latest Bones episode

Monday, October 13th, 2008

It stands to reason that will all the various subject matter Bones takes on, the show is going to offend some people. Add in the fact that you’ve paired a stout believer in science and facts with a good Catholic FBI agent as the two main characters, and the religious debates alone are going to cause a few raised eyebrows - to say the least!

Well, it seems that this last week’s episode, “The He in the She,” has done just that - and not with just any old regular Joe. The Catholic League has issued a statement regarding this most recent episode in regards to some of the dialog and the way the issues were treated. The statement issued was:

Nathan Fillion to join the fray in a new crime drama

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

No, don’t misunderstand me. I said a NEW crime drama. He’s not joining the cast of Bones. But that would be kind of neat to see him as a guest star, but that’s another dream, another day.

Nathan Fillion is stepping into the role of Nick Castle, a horror novelist, who teams up with a savvy, sexy NYPD homicide detective to solve crimes. Murders to be exact.

It should be interesting to see another one of the Joss Whedon’s alumni in a new project. We’ve got Eliza Dushku playing in Dollhouse and of course our beloved David Boreanaz we all know and love as Agent Booth in Bones. The show is going to be called Castle, and it doesn’t air until 2009 and will be showing on ABC. Hopefully there won’t be any viewing conflicts between that and Bones, I’d like to check it out. Looks like it’s got more humor than the average crime drama, and that’s one of the things I love about Bones so much. I mean, come on, murder is drama enough - these other shows don’t need to take themselves so seriously!

What do you think - will you be tuning in?

Green Lantern a no-go for David Boreanaz

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

I just don’t get Hollywood. There’s so many decisions and so much politics and money going on behind the scenes, well, I guess I’ll never understand the why’s and wherefore’s. It appears that David Boreanaz is not on the list of actors who is being considered for the role in the live-action version of the Green Lantern movie after all. Talk about disappointments. I knew that when I heard the rumor that it was not guarantee that we’d see David on the big screen - I mean, the movie is still in it’s baby-stages, but at least I had hope.

Apparently, according to the people in charge, he’s too old to play the part. WHAT? Are they crazy? There are so many excellent and valid arguments against that, I don’t even know where to start. They say that the character Hal Jordan is supposed to be 27, and since Boreanaz is in his late 30’s, he’s not a good fit. That’s crap.

Two new recurring characters for Bones

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

Kristen over at E!Online has some new Bones news for us… and it may not be all that welcome to some. There are going to be two recurring characters on the show this season, and neither of them appear to be bringing happiness and sunshine with them. We’ve all heard that Roxy, a past old flame of Angela’s is going to reappear. What we didn’t know until now is that she’s not scheduled to just show up, shock and awe, and then disappear. Seems like she’ll be sticking around for a bit.

Also, we’ve been promised (and promised…) more background on Booth. Well, looks like we’ll get it - and a whole lot more. His little brother Jared is going to be the other recurring role this season. Not only is he going to show up and stick around, but he will be sticking around and sticking with Bones a little bit more than we may like. Instead of seeing Booth and Bones get together, we’ll be seeing Bones hook up with another of the Booth family. So our hopes for seeing them get together will be postponed just that much longer. Bones Season 3 coming out soon!

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Check it out! We can finally have all of Season 3 plus extras at our fingertips! Coming out November 18th, the set will run about $60.00, ($59.98 to be specific) but right now, Amazon has it for $41.99 as a pre-order.

The set will have 5 discs and will include two versions of the episode “The Player under Pressure,” the one we actually saw and the one that was shot originally and edited after the VT shootings. Oddly enough, it will also include the two-part season premier for season 4. Along with typical bonus material, director’s takes, the set will include gag reels, which are some of my favorite parts of TV on DVD.

So, the new season starts in September, then we can have Season 3 will all it’s extras in November - all just in time for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Hurray!

Welcome to our newest squint

Friday, July 4th, 2008

(At least temporarily, that is…)

Well, we’re not completely over the shocker that Zack is not going to be magically back next season, but we’re having to come to terms with it quickly, because the casting for the rotations of grad students has begun! Meet Michael Badalucco, whom you might remember from The Practice - he played Jimmy. (Although since I don’t watch that show, I remember him best as “Baby Faced Nelson” from Oh Brother Where Art Thou. Kind of a weird person to be playing on Bones, if you ask me… but hey, whatever works - and let’s hope he does!)

mbadalucco.jpg

It seems like the news is being met with varying degrees of outrage and acceptance. For those die-hard Zack fans who can’t seem to let go, this is just another hit for the show. Some people are wondering what’s happening to the writers and if the show has hope of pulling out of the downward spiral that it seems to have taken. Others are more accepting of the change and are willing to move past the sorrow of Zack’s removal from the show. Either way, the die has been cast, so I guess we can only wait and see how the new “rotation of grad students” goes and hope for the best.

Thus far, the show has been great, with the exception of the complete loss of weeks of episodes due to the strike - which I think played a big part in the absolute shocker of Zack’s turn to the dark side. So I can only hope that the next season will pull through with the same great writing as we’ve become accustomed to. Only a little over two months!

About Watching Bones

Who doesn’t love forensic anthropology? Okay, so maybe not, but throw in David Boreanaz and an FBI agent and former sniper along with Emily Deschanel as anthropologist-by-day and best selling author-by-night, as well as other awesome cast members TJ Thyne, Micheala Conlin, Tamara Taylor, and Eric Millegan, and you’ve got a mix for an awesome show. That’s just what you get with Bones. A crime drama that has great wit, great writing, and obviously a great cast; Deschanel’s character Temperance “Bones Brennan is socially illiterate, although brilliant, and balances out Boreanaz’s character Agent Seeley Booth as they work together to solve sometimes years-old murders. Backed by the “squints at the Jeffersonian Museum, this team is unstoppable, but it’s the people and the relationships that really make the show. Don’t miss a minute of it!
