What happens to Booth and Bones after?

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited about the potential Booth/Bones relationship that we’ve all been jonesing for, but I can’t help but wonder that when they finally DO get together that things will get weird. I have faith in the writers, so I’m hesitantly confident that whatever they come up with won’t suck. However, it IS a little odd, considering that for all the previous seasons we’ve been subtly reminded of workplace relationships gone wrong or the reason they’re a bad idea in the first place. Granted, the only “relationship gone wrong” that we’ve actually seen was Angela and Hodgins, and even they have managed to come to a working friendship (with dare I hope, a possibility of getting back together before it’s all said and done…) Then there’s Cam and Booth - a relationship that was pre-Bones and not technically work-related, but still…. Throughout the varying seasons it seems that the message comes across that Booth and Bones are destined to have an unrequited love relationship. I mentioned in an earlier post about how Booth told Bones that there are some people you just don’t sleep with.

I was watching another re-run just today and saw the same message again. In The Man in the Cell, after Booth pressured Cam to skip protocol and open a skull without doing the proper legwork, she ended up inhaling some toxin and almost died. Booth blamed himself for what happened (and almost happened) to Cam, and here’s the resulting conversation he had with Bones about it:

Booth: you know what happened to Cam happened because we had a personal relationship.
Bones: had?
Booth: yeah. People who work in high risk situations they can’t be involved romantically because it leads to things like what happened.
Bones: high risk situations?
Booth: every single day it’s with us. There’s this line, and we can’t cross it. You know what I’m saying?
Bones: yes. I understand.

I just can’t help but wonder how things would change if Booth and Bones truly get together. Remember how Bones reacted when Booth was kidnapped by the Gravedigger? When they figured out who the Gravedigger was and had them in custody, when they had figured out where Booth was and were about to rescue him, remember what Bones did? She picked up a briefcase and slammed it across the Gravedigger’s head. Not that I can say I’d have done it differently or that she shouldn’t have done it, but if THAT is the reaction she has for someone whom she ISN’T in a relationship with (technically), what would she do if/when they are?

gravedigger
Wasn’t that a great episode though - as good as the one where Bones was buried alive in the car with Hodgins and Booth’s reaction when he spotted the puff of dirt from the airbag explosion they created to signal their location… I may be skeptical about the fallout, but I’m excited. I can’t wait to see them together!

Ironic statement from Booth

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Okay, watching a rerun the other day, “The Truth in the Lye” and I couldn’t help but find this a little ironic. During the episode, Booth hooks up with his ex and although Bones doesn’t seem to think it’s a big deal, Booth realizes it was a mistake. Throughout the episode, Bones tries to convince him that it’s normal for him to want/need sex and that if he and his ex are sexually compatible and agree on it, that their occasional trysts are fine. Finally, Booth addresses the issue:

Booth: You know what Bones, it might be all anthropology to you, but there are certain people that you just can’t sleep with. I mean you can pretend that it’s just sex you can lie to yourself and you can say that it’s all good, but there are just too many strings, too much at stake. Too much to lose.
Bones: Yeah, I can see that.

booth-ex

Now, on that note, consider the upcoming fulfillment of our long-awaited dream of Booth and Bones finally getting together themselves - in a sexual way that is. While we’ve finally been told that it is indeed coming (this season even), I can’t help but wonder what kind of “strings” are going to be attached and what kind of backlash we can expect. It’s never as uncomplicated as we’d like it to be, and even Bones with her strictly analytical way of looking at things - sex included - can get away from the fact that a physical relationship doesn’t always mix well with a working relationship…

More Booth background to come!

Untitled-1

After the episode was over and it was revealed that the introduction of Booth’s little brother wasn’t going to push a wedge in between Booth and Bones, I came to decide that I really liked meeting the younger Booth. He gave us some insight into Booth’s background that helped flesh out who he is a little better. I’m enjoying getting to know some of the characters even more - beyond their relationships with each other that is. And now it looks like we’ll get to find out even more about Booth’s growing-up years as we get to meet Booth’s father and possibly grand-father in upcoming episodes.

According to TV Guide’s William Keck, we will meet Booth’s dad later this season. He is an “ex-military man-turned-barber” and we should probably expect some tension if not some fireworks with the introduction of his character. During sessions with his therapist Dr. Gordon Wyatt (Stephen Fry - yay he’s back!), Booth finally opens up. Have to say I’m surprised to hear that! We learned previously that Booth’s father was an alcoholic and was apparently abusive since Booth would take care of his younger brother Jared. David Boreanaz says “Booth’s father had some issues. We’re going to find out more about how painful it was for me growing up with that man. My grandfather was a much nicer person.”

james-garner1

Booth’s grandfather should also be an interesting addition to the Bones cast - even if he is around for only an episode or so. There’s no official word as of the latest TV Guide info on who will be playing grandpa, but Hart Hanson said that James Garner topped his wish list, which he actually revealed to us in the panel the Bones cast/crew participated in at the Paley Center. Grandpa is a fighter-pilot hero and even saved Booth’s life at one point. Guess we’ll have to wait until his appearance in late April to find out what the story there is…

I’m sure it will be worth the wait!

Congrats to David Boreanaz for making the sexiest man list!

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

Number 23 on the list of 50 isn’t anything to sneeze at. That’s where David Boreanaz fell on BuddyTV’s recent list of TV’s 50 Sexiest Men of 2008. Here’s the description they wrote about him:

Booth is a man’s man, a tough guy who loves his family and loves justice. He’s not the brightest bulb in the store, but he’s a good person, funny at times, and so goofy that at times we forget how hunky David Boreanaz really is. Then we take a step back and remember that he’s absolutely gorgeous.

What’s the whole “not the brightest bulb” comment all about? He’s plenty bright, in my opinion, but hey, I guess anyone compared to the squint squad may not appear to be all that bright, so I’ll let that slide. Just don’t let it happen again…

I like that they included the fact that he loves his family and loves justice. He’s not just another law enforcement officer in pursuit of getting the bad guy for the sake of his pride. He’s more invested than that and protecting those he loves is top priority. Funny at times and goofy - yep on both counts!

Considering he just made BuddyTV’s list of most kissable men, it comes as no surprise to see him here on this list. I’m so glad to find him on both lists! Sometimes our Bones characters get passed over and I’m left thinking “who makes up these lists?” and “what were they THINKING? Bones is so much better than so-and-so that DID make the list!”

Who’s more kissable?

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

BuddyTV recently did a series of “20 most kissable” people - divided into two different sections of TV Men and TV Women. Guess who made their list? No surprise here: both David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel were among those listed as most kissable! Too bad some of the other characters didn’t quite make it - I would much rather see TJ Thyne and Michaela Conlin on the list instead of some of the others listed. Guess I just don’t get the appeal of some of them…

David Boreanaz was listed as number 16 of 20 on the list and was considered to be a “Tame but Charged” kiss. I don’t know that I agree with the “tame” part… What do you think? Sure, his kiss with Bones wasn’t terribly exciting (except for the fact that they DID kiss) but hey, what do you expect for a staged mistletoe kiss? When they really do get into it, I’m sure it will be anything BUT tame!

I’m not sure I get their “Degree of Difficulty” but they’ve listed him as “Easy.” Again, can’t say that I agree considering Booth has such a high regard for relationships and what they mean. They gave him a 7 out of 10 for kissablitly. Hmmm, I’d have to give him higher than that!

Emily Deschanel, on the other hand, made the list at number 3 of 20. Her “kind of kiss” is listed as “unexpectedly steamy” - I can see that, although I would almost think “steamy” would suffice considering she has such an open, unhindered view of sex/relationships. The “Degree of Difficulty” is listed as “Tough” with the explanation that her lack of social skills may be an impediment to her getting into the kissing situation in the first place. I’ll buy that. Her “Kissability” score is 8 out of 10. I’ll go for that one as well.

What about you - what do you think of how they rated?

Spoiler for Jan 15th Bones!

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

We’re all probably salivating for the new episodes of Bones after several weeks of reruns, and we don’t have TOO much longer to wait. January 15th we’ll be getting to see The Double Trouble in the Panhandle - where Booth and Bones go undercover to work in a circus of all things! If that doesn’t sound like fun to you, check out the shot below - if that doesn’t make you want to see it, I don’t know what will.

Anyway, Kristin at E!Online gave us a little bit more insight into the upcoming episode when she answered a fan’s quesiton about what kind of steam we can expect for B & B when the new episodes return…

Kelly in Albany, N.Y.: I am dying to hear some news about Bones! When are we going to see something steamy going on with Booth and Brennan!?
When the show returns on Jan. 15, Booth and Bones will go undercover as married couple Buck and Wanda in the circus after Siamese twins show up dead. Since they have to make everything convincing, the pair will share a bed in their trailer. All I can say is when the trailer’s a rockin’, don’t come a knockin’. And trust me, it will be a rockin’!

Something tells me this probably won’t be our “naked” together scene, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers!

Brennan and Jared: what did you think?

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

When they first said that there was going to be a Bones/younger-brother Booth romance I was really disappointed. Then, when they reasoned that it was going to, in the long run, bring Bones and big-brother Booth closer, I figured I’d accept it. What I didn’t expect was the way the episode played out. With so much speculation and so much typical TV gossip and misleading quotes, I’ve stopped even trying to figure out what the writers are going to do with the show. The whole “since Booth and Bones are ’supposed’ to end up in bed together (or naked together or something like that) this season, maybe it’s Bones and younger-brother Booth” theory is one such speculation.

Shot from TV Guide’s spotlight on Bones for the Nov. 12th episode of Bones.

When the storyline played out that Bones realized (finally) that Jared Booth was not the good guy he seemed to be and that he was playing his big brother and making him look bad in the process, she dropped him so fast he fell off his bar stool. Oh wait, no, she pushed him off of it. That was a great turn around - and so awesome to see her get emotional about something, which is kind of rare for Dr. Temperance Brennan. At the end of the show when the squints were celebrating Booth’s birthday and she made her little speech about the quiet man on the sidelines that’s the true alpha-male, I was really touched, and it really did seem like a turning point for the two of them. Then, after Booth stuck his neck out there, stood up to Jared, Bones came out to be with him and he finally opened up and confessed that his dad drank - a lot - well - I’m looking forward to more open moments like that! Not that I expect the walls to come down quickly or immediately or anything like that, but there’s a crack there now that wasn’t before - and it’s all thanks to little brother Booth.

So what about you guys - were any of you disappointed in how things played out? Or were you as pleased as I was to see Jared fall off of his pedestal in Bone’s eyes while Booth was raised another notch?

Booth’s back-story a gamble? No way!

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

It’s always interesting to get different people’s opinions on how things work. In an recent interview with Hart Hanson, he talks about how a show and the writers have to “earn” their audience’s desire for a back-story on the characters in the show. That there has to be a connection to the characters before people want to know what made them who they are. Maybe I’m just biased since I love the show already, but I typically enjoy knowing what makes someone tick. The fact that they’ve hinted several times over the past 3 1/2 seasons that Booth was a sniper just peaks my interest even more.

We’ve already gotten some of Bone’s story - with her parents, most specifically her dad, and some of her brother’s story. Although I’d like to know a little more about what happened to her after her parents disappeared. I think she was like 13 years old, wasn’t she?

Anyway, Hanson goes on to say that it’s always a gamble to assume that the audience is ready for the back-story, but I dare say us Bones fans are more than ready for the scoop on Booth. (And, it should be interesting to get it from his little brother’s perspective…) Bring it on!

What good will come of Jared Booth?

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Well, I guess it’s official. We’ve known for a while now that Booth’s little brother was going to make an appearance. Then we found out that said brother was going to “connect” with Bones. Then, we found out that said connection was going to be played by Brendan Fehr, Roswell alum. So, what else is there?

According to TV Guide, after meeting with the younger Booth, “life on (and off) the Jeffersonian may never be the same.” Uh huh. So what does that mean for our long-awaited, much desired Bones/Booth pair-up? Well, looks like her little tryst with the younger Booth brother may just help them along in the long run. HUH? Yeah, my reaction too.

Brendan Fehr as Jared Booth?

Friday, September 26th, 2008

We’ve finally got some idea of who is going to catch Bone’s eye and ruffle the feathers of the would-be Booth/Bones romance. We’ve been told that Booth’s younger brother is coming to town, and that Bones and he are going to have some kind of a relationship - the kind that spells trouble for any progress they may have made with the Booth-Bones relationship. So just who is this guy? Well, looks like it’s going to be former alien from Roswell, Michael.

When I first read the news on Kristen’s blog from E!, I almost didn’t recognize him. I watched Roswell for the first season or so but then lost interest. I actually had to read down further into the comments to really get a good handle on who he was. And as much as I liked his character on the show, I’m a little disappointed… I know this is the kind of thing that’s completely open to your own opinion, but I thought that he was supposed to be as good looking if not a little more-so than Booth. Personally, he’s not doing it for me. (At least not with this shot.)

Am I being too harsh, or does anyone agree? Still I guess we’ll have to wait and see how he does, I’m sure he’ll carry the character off really well, I have nothing against his acting, so hopefully the writers will give him something really great to work with. Supposedly he’s an “upstanding Navy officer” - so service runs in the family. After this week’s surprise ending, I’m sure they’ll do Booth’s little brother justice! And won’t it be fun to see how they interact and what kind of trouble little brother stirs up - and of course the typical sibling rivalry and stories told on big brother Booth! So far, he’s only signed up for two episodes, but you know how quickly that can change!

Romance is in the air for the Bones crew!

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

I don’t think it’s any secret by now the biggest news of the Bones panel at Comic Con. Booth and Bones will get naked this season - together, that is! Unfortunately for us, though, Hart Hanson was a very cautious about how he worded his statement, which implies that it’s not as cut and dry as it may seem. There are so many ways that the writers could get Booth and Bones together where they just happen to be naked, or where circumstances deem it necessary, that “naked” doesn’t mean but so much. Without some hanky panky, well, naked is just naked. After all, Bones has already seen Booth naked, and we all remember how she reacted - very professionally and even complimentary of him for not being puritanical about it. (That was such a great scene!!!) However, I can’t wait to see how they play it out - and how “professional” Booth is able to be about it. Seems like even Bones had a tiny bit of trouble keeping a straight face at the sight of Booth naked, so who knows? Maybe even she’ll fall apart (at least a little bit) at the combined nakedness. We can only hope!

In other romantic news, we also have the promise of a few other romances to look forward to this season. Bones will be dating at least two other men, and we already know that Angela’s husband and a previous girlfriend will resurface to cause trouble for her and Hodgins. Who else? Sweets may be headed for a romance of his own - which I think is just great. Not that he could EVER come close to replacing Zack, but his character has grown on me and I think that seeing him grow as part of the team on the show may just help to heal some of the wounds left by Zack’s defection from the world of the sane and not-murders. Also to look forward to is a possible relationship for Cam - with one of Angela’s old flames, no less! How odd would it be for Cam to hook up with Roxy? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see…

Booth in the tub clip

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

There may have been many, many complaints from us Bones fans about the way the season ended. There was much we felt was left our or unexplained to our satisfaction, however we can’t completely disown the final episode. It most definitely had it’s redeeming moments that were classic of the Bones we know and love.

Sure, the Booth-is-dead thing could have made an entire episode in itself, but hey, they were pressed for time. Sure, we could have done with a few more episodes to build up and/or help explain how in the world Zach converted to a cold-blooded killer, and what the heck happened to him while he was in Iraq, but hey, they were pressed for time. It really sucks that so much great storyline got tossed due to the strike that seems to still be biting us in the butt even after it’s over. But, like I said, our show is still around, and although it’s back on hiatus until the fall, we were left with some gratifying scenes. Don’t believe me? Maybe you don’t remember this one…

Did anyone else notice he was reading a Green Lantern comic book? The character he voiced in the new Jusitce League movie?

Or how about this one? Repressed feelings anyone? I don’t think anyone except maybe Bones and Booth don’t know these two are meant to be together (and that would mostly be because of denial and repression!)

These are just two of some of the great moments from the season finale. I guess the best part is that we have next season to look forward to.

David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel sing

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

We got to see Emily Deschanel sing recently on The Wannabe in the Weeds episode of Bones where our dynamic duo starred alongside of two American Idol former stars. Too bad we didn’t get a chance to see David Boreanaz up on stage showing his vocal talents! However, if you’re a fan of Angel, that’s something you got the chance to experience in several episodes when Boreanaz’s character Angel sang karaoke for an empath demon so he could get information about an innocent.

So it’s not the same as seeing Agent Booth sing (that’s for sure) but it’s still a sight to see. Although you can immediately tell there are huge differences in the two roles in question, I just thought I’d share the video for those of you unfamiliar with David’s past karaoke experience. And for those of us who’ve already enjoyed it, well, here it is again for your listening (and comedic) pleasure!

Spielberg’s connection to Bones

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

How interesting… I hadn’t made any connection before about Steven Spielberg’s stepdaughter and Bones until a friend of mine pointed it out. Mostly because of the “step” part and the fact that her last name doesn’t ring any bells by itself.

Jessica Capshaw has had a recurring role in Bones as Rebecca Stinson. If you don’t recongize the name, I’m sure you do know the person. She plays Booth’s son’s (Parker) mother. Also interestingly enough, she’s played opposite David Boreanaz before.

About Watching Bones

Who doesn’t love forensic anthropology? Okay, so maybe not, but throw in David Boreanaz and an FBI agent and former sniper along with Emily Deschanel as anthropologist-by-day and best selling author-by-night, as well as other awesome cast members TJ Thyne, Micheala Conlin, Tamara Taylor, and Eric Millegan, and you’ve got a mix for an awesome show. That’s just what you get with Bones. A crime drama that has great wit, great writing, and obviously a great cast; Deschanel’s character Temperance “Bones Brennan is socially illiterate, although brilliant, and balances out Boreanaz’s character Agent Seeley Booth as they work together to solve sometimes years-old murders. Backed by the “squints at the Jeffersonian Museum, this team is unstoppable, but it’s the people and the relationships that really make the show. Don’t miss a minute of it!
