Nathan Fillion to join the fray in a new crime drama

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

No, don’t misunderstand me. I said a NEW crime drama. He’s not joining the cast of Bones. But that would be kind of neat to see him as a guest star, but that’s another dream, another day.

Nathan Fillion is stepping into the role of Nick Castle, a horror novelist, who teams up with a savvy, sexy NYPD homicide detective to solve crimes. Murders to be exact.

It should be interesting to see another one of the Joss Whedon’s alumni in a new project. We’ve got Eliza Dushku playing in Dollhouse and of course our beloved David Boreanaz we all know and love as Agent Booth in Bones. The show is going to be called Castle, and it doesn’t air until 2009 and will be showing on ABC. Hopefully there won’t be any viewing conflicts between that and Bones, I’d like to check it out. Looks like it’s got more humor than the average crime drama, and that’s one of the things I love about Bones so much. I mean, come on, murder is drama enough - these other shows don’t need to take themselves so seriously!

What do you think - will you be tuning in?

More stars join the superhero fray

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

David Boreanaz certainly isn’t the first star to lend his voice talent to the animated world of superheroes, but it seems that more and more are jumping on the bandwagon that are the comics-come-to-life. Keri Russell will star in the new animated DVD-movie “Wonder Woman.” Along with Russell, we’ll also get to hear Rosario Dawson, Alfred Molina, Virginia Madsen, and Nathan Fillion (oddly enough, another Whedonverse alumni - from both Buffy and Firefly.) (Fillion and Russell also worked together on the film “Waitress.”)

Russell said about the movie that it is “funny and action-packed and adult in a nice way.”

I wonder what comic-book character will be next, and what stars we’ll get to see play the parts… It’d be nice to hear Boreanaz in another film - but I guess we’ll just have to wait to see what happens! The Justice League certainly is a good comic to see continued.

David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel sing

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

We got to see Emily Deschanel sing recently on The Wannabe in the Weeds episode of Bones where our dynamic duo starred alongside of two American Idol former stars. Too bad we didn’t get a chance to see David Boreanaz up on stage showing his vocal talents! However, if you’re a fan of Angel, that’s something you got the chance to experience in several episodes when Boreanaz’s character Angel sang karaoke for an empath demon so he could get information about an innocent.

So it’s not the same as seeing Agent Booth sing (that’s for sure) but it’s still a sight to see. Although you can immediately tell there are huge differences in the two roles in question, I just thought I’d share the video for those of you unfamiliar with David’s past karaoke experience. And for those of us who’ve already enjoyed it, well, here it is again for your listening (and comedic) pleasure!

David Boreanaz’s old friend Amy Acker…

Friday, April 25th, 2008

I can’t imagine any fan of the show Angel not liking Amy Acker’s character Fred (Winifred Burkle). Her sudden addition to the cast after the crew rescued her from a hell dimension was a little odd, but it didn’t take long for her to find her place in the group who “helped the helpless.” She added just the right mix of “girl next door” without the glamour that Cordielia (Charisma Carpenter) had, but matched (and sometimes surpassed) the genius of Wesley (Alexis Denisof). When Fred was taken over by Illyria, we were heartbroken, but just as entralled to see where the new and improved version would take the show.

Now, David’s old Angel alumni is joining up with Joss Whedon once again in his new show Dollhouse. She’ll be costaring with another of the Buffyverse’s famous names - Eliza Dushku - who played Faith on both Buffy and Angel. Apparently there is a Battlestar Galactica star on board as well… According to the summary on IMDB, the show is going to be about “a top-secret world of people programmed with different personalities, abilities and memories depending on their mission. After each assignment — which can be physical, romantic or even illegal — the characters have their memories wiped clean, and are sent back to a lab (dubbed the “Dollhouse”). Show centers on Dushku’s character, Echo, as she slowly begins to develop some self-awareness, which impacts her missions.” Sounds pretty interesting… I may just have to check it out. (Like I need to watch more TV! But come on, this is Joss Whedon we’re talking about!)

David Boreanaz did what in who’s trailer?

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Well, if you believe Seth Green, he pooped in his trailer - that is, not his own, in Seth’s. Anyway, as long as it was in the toilet, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. Kind of an odd thing to bring up at a panel, but hey, this is Seth Green and the cast of Buffy we’re talking about… Anyway, that was just one of the very weird and very interesting things said at the Paley Fest where almost the whole Buffy cast reunited to host a panel for fans.

This was the first time since 2004 that the cast was reunited, it’s just too bad that they all couldn’t - or just plain didn’t - make it. The only ones who didn’t make the reunion were Alyson Hannigan, Eliza Dushku, Anthony Stewart Head, and our beloved David Boreanaz. Since David knew he wasn’t attending, word was that he was going to provide a taped message for the fans, but apparently that didn’t happen either. Sigh.

Anyway, apparently the panel went pretty well despite a few awkward moments. The panel talked about the dark turn Buffy’s character took during the sixth season, and the writers talked about what it was like to work on Buffy. David Greenwalt said, “There’s nothing like taking all your pain and misery and shoving it into good-looking people’s mouths.”

smg-jstewart.jpg Sarah Michelle Gellar was compared to Jimmy Stewart - sorry, I don’t see the connection there - and Gellar was asked to choose once and for all between Angel and Spike - to which we didn’t really get an answer! Also, Emma Caulfield revealed that during a heart wrenching monologue she gave in the episode “The Body” in which Buffy’s mom had died, what she was really feeling. Too bad it didn’t hold some deeper meaning to life or anything… “I had to go to the bathroom!” I guess if you’ve gotta go, you’ve gotta go…

They also talked about the bold move to have Willow and Tara become a couple and how the studio dealt with it. An executive at the WB asked “Is [Joss] really going to do this gay thing?” And when they asked him to cut the first kiss between the two, Joss threatened to quit. “It’s the one time I pulled that out,” he said. “And they were like, ‘No, it’s OK. Leave it in.’”

Check out the rest of the “superlatives” at TVGuide.com and weep with me that we weren’t able to be there ourselves…

First David Boreanaz, now James Marsters…

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

Well, David Boreanaz did it, so I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that his old Buffy and Angel buddy James Marsters, aka Spike, has joined him in a role of his own where he plays for the other team. (Okay, technically both teams, but let’s not split hairs…) David’s role in the movie Suffering Man’s Charity as a gay man (played opposite Alan Cumming) garnered him a lot of attention, and Marsters’s guest appearance on the TV show Torchwood should raise plenty of eyebrows in his direction as well!

spike-torchwood.jpg

As Captain John, a Time Agent and thief, he plays the reformed Captain Jack’s former partner in crime. He returns to bring Capain Jack, played by John Barrowman, back into his thieving ways, and during his stint on the show shares a lip-lock with him. (more…)

Buffy cast to reunite for fan-fest?

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Okay, we’ve all heard the news: Sarah Michelle Gellar is going to attend the PaleyFest in March. Yippee. Sorry, forgive my cynicism, but the fact that even without Gellar, the attendee list of Amber Benson, Nicholas Brendon, Charisma Carpenter, Emma Caulfield, Eliza Dushku, Seth Green, James Marsters, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Joss Whedon is WAAYY more than enough to get me there. (That and the disappointing reality that I have absolutely no hope of attending has made me a little bitter…)

buffytvs.jpg

Their appearance is scheduled for a Thursday, March 20th at 7 pm and I’m sure will prove to be an incredibly exciting event. Too bad they don’t ever hold these things on the east coast… Okay, so we already know that, what’s the big deal? Well, if you believe everything you read on the internet - you do, don’t you? - there’s a rumor (thanks to IOL) that David Boreanaz will be among the Buffy alumni that are attending this little “soiree.” To back up their claim, they’ve even got a cute little quote from Seth Green himself. Green says: “I can’t remember the last time everyone’s been in the same place, so something hilarious is bound to happen.”

Hmm, just got a little better, didn’t it?

Well, time will tell, and the Paley site does say “additional panelists to be announced” so the door is left wide open for him to decide to make the fans giddy with joy. Oh well, the rest of us will just have to live vicariously through the lucky few that get to go, and maybe the geek-fans among us can step up production on that transporter invention so maybe next time we can all go…

She’ll always be Buffy to us…

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

Okay, I know this is a blog about the show Bones, but seeing that one of the main draws to the show for many people is David Boreanaz in the lead, and seeing as how he will inevitably be tied to his character of Angel of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame, it only makes sense that we would occasionally come across news of Sarah Michelle Gellar/Prinze (formerly known as Buffy of said show). So, having said that rather long disclaimer, here we go!

smg-parade-scan.jpg

This past Sunday in the Parade section of the paper, the In Step With spotlight was none other than our favorite vampire-loving vampire slayer! (Ironic, isn’t it…) Although there was no exciting news of a Buffy reunion or big screen movie as many fans still hold out hope for, it was a pleasant interview. Gellar talked briefly about her new film The Air I Breathe. She plays a pop star who gets involved with a mobster (and not in a good way), alongside of Kevin Bacon, Forest Whitaker, Julie Delpy and Brendan Fraser. The film is about emotions, according to Gellar - literally. IMDB says it’s a “drama based on an ancient Chinese proverb that breaks life down into four emotional cornerstones: happiness, pleasure, sorrow and love.” Actually, if you read the rest of the plot outline, it does sound better than that. Okay, I’ll be fair. It goes on to explain: “A businessman (Whitaker) bets his life on a horse race; a gangster (Fraser) sees the future; a pop star (Gellar) falls prey to a crime boss (Garcia); a doctor (Bacon) must save the love of his life.”

The article gives a little of her acting background and says that her true love is stage acting. Apparently that is Gellar’s goal - getting back onstage. “Broadway is truly my first wish,” she said. Too bad, because even if her movies haven’t always been a big hit, she was so good as Sunnydale’s golden girl.

(Oh, and she clarifies that she is not a close friend of Britney Spears - “We’ve only met a few times,” she said. Whew, I guess we don’t have to worry about Sarah taking a hint from Brittney and loosing her beautiful hair anytime soon…)

Guess who’s coming back to TV?

Friday, November 30th, 2007

smg.jpg

Guess who might be coming back to the small screen? Rumor has it that Sarah Michelle Gellar just might be reconsidering her leave of absence from television. When Buffy went off the air, Sarah was hoping to dive into movies. Unfortunately for her, her “diving turned into more of a splashing in the puddles, and she hasn’t really done as well as she’d hoped on the silver screen. Face it, as much as I enjoyed both of the Scooby Doo movies, they weren’t exactly career-making stuff.

So, if you believe what you read on the internet, and you know it’s all true, Sarah is looking at various TV scripts and is “weighing her options. With Joss Whedon working on Dollhouse, along with Eliza Dushku, David Boreanaz staring on Bones, and a few other of our favorite Buffy and Angel alumni making guest appearances on various other shows, we may just be able to get our Whedon fix after all!

About Watching Bones

Who doesn’t love forensic anthropology? Okay, so maybe not, but throw in David Boreanaz and an FBI agent and former sniper along with Emily Deschanel as anthropologist-by-day and best selling author-by-night, as well as other awesome cast members TJ Thyne, Micheala Conlin, Tamara Taylor, and Eric Millegan, and you’ve got a mix for an awesome show. That’s just what you get with Bones. A crime drama that has great wit, great writing, and obviously a great cast; Deschanel’s character Temperance “Bones Brennan is socially illiterate, although brilliant, and balances out Boreanaz’s character Agent Seeley Booth as they work together to solve sometimes years-old murders. Backed by the “squints at the Jeffersonian Museum, this team is unstoppable, but it’s the people and the relationships that really make the show. Don’t miss a minute of it!
