Just more Booth/Bones hype?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Untitled-1
I’m sure by now this is all over the place and therefore, old news, but just in case…

After last season’s finale letdown, who can believe what they hear any more? We were promised a Booth and Bones hook-up, and while Bones fans everywhere anxiously waited for the fulfillment of said promise, the writers were busily looking for a way out of making it happen. Outcome? It was all a dream. Kind of. More like a hallucination due to Booth’s brain surgery. (Although through it all I kind of enjoyed the storyline that played out, even if it was all a hoax… Loved seeing all the squints together in the roles they had, seeing Booth and Bones married, Cam as a cop - which I understand she was before but we never got to see - and Jared as someone looking out for his brother instead of the other way around.)

So do we really even consider being excited about the rumor of a Booth/Bones kiss this upcoming season? Oh heck, why not? Besides, dream, hallucination, whatever it is, it’s a kiss, right?

Here’s what Michael Ausiello had to say about the rumor. Doesn’t confirm or deny, but as we learned last season, confirmation doesn’t mean that much anyway…

Question: What’s this I hear about a Booth and Brennan kiss on Bones? Confirmation, please! –Molly
Ausiello: Series creator Hart Hanson confirms that a season-opening smooch “was scripted,” but adds, “I’m in no way confirming that it was a sincere scripting. Could have been a way to identify leaks.” Now, as someone who’s been in this situation before, here’s what you need to do next, Molly: Get in touch with your mole and tell him to pack his bags, grab his passport and get the hell out of the country. They’re onto him!

McClintock fans rejoice!

Monday, July 20th, 2009

For those of you who enjoyed watching Eddie McClintock play Agent Tim Sullivan, tune into the SciFi, oh sorry, the SyFy channel and check out the new series Warehouse 13. Reviewed as “”Bones” meets “The Librarian” meets “Eureka,”" by HitFix, that pretty much sums it up. No, there’s more to it than that, but being a new series, there’s only so much to say. (That and I’ve only seen the pilot, so I’m not the best to give you the heads up on the show.)

Although I can tell you that the show is a LOT like Bones, and Eddie McClintock is playing his character from Bones pretty closely. Or, if you agree with HitFix, he’s playing it pretty close to David Boreanaz’s character Booth! They even suggested that “McClintock’s ideal niche is as basic cable’s David Boreanaz.” I guess if you’re going to channel someone, David is a pretty nice choice… Personally, I have to say that the somewhat flippant attitude is much closer to the Sulley that Bones *almost* fell in love with, and there’s just no comparison to Boreanaz’s Special Agent Seeley Booth.

From what I’ve seen and read, the show is a lot more Eureka than Bones, with only the stiff, by the book female lead and off-the-cuff, more laid back male lead solving mysteries to compare. The gist is that there is a secret government warehouse (hence the name) that houses mysterious and often magical/mystical objects that are being kept under lock and key due to the crazy/dangerous/unpredictable things they can do is evaluated. (And then they’re still kept in lock down.) For example, some of the items HitFix referenced were Houdini’s magical diary (which seemed like it was going to play some part in the pilot but was quickly put back in the warehouse without another word), Tesla’s stun gun (which we got to see in use during the pilot), a wish-granting kettle (that conjures ferrets when you wish for something impossible - isn’t that part of what wishes are supposed to be about?) and Thomas Edison’s electrical car (no wonder it’s stashed in the warehouse - gas companies would go under if something like this was ever developed!).

Anyway the show looks amusing, but seeing that I can’t keep up with the shows I already love, and the fact that it was a little more goofy than suspenseful, I don’t know that this is one that I’ll be keeping up with. But, if you’re missing Sulley and wondering when we might see McClintock back again, get your fix with Warehouse 13.

And let me know what you think! Oh yeah, the show’s on Tuesdays at 9/8C. Enjoy!

Bones & Fringe next season

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

Fox is really endearing itself to me lately. As a whole, I’m pretty happy with the network’s lineup for this fall. Not only is Fox the home of our beloved Bones, but our family has found a new favorite in the summer’s reality hit So You Think You Can Dance - just about the only reality show I’ll watch (if you can call it a “reality show.”) But, after a first great season, it’s keeping Fringe along with Dollhouse - the brainchild of fan fav Joss Whedon.

Although Dollhouse may not have drawn the viewers like they had hoped - in my opinion due to lack of publicity and a confusing opening (looked more like something risque than the almost sci-fi show it is) - I’m glad to see they’re giving it anther season to prove itself. Fox says that thanks to “having two scripted freshman hits this season - “Fringe” and “Lie to Me” [they had] more flexibility to be choosy and also to be more patient with a slow starter like “Dollhouse.”

(Somehow, I never saw this promo on TV, and after talking to several friends about the show, they had gotten the wrong impression from whatever it was they had seen, so hopefully this next season will draw a better crowd and get better ratings. I’d like to see where they take the show…) (more…)

David and Brendan - best buds?

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

I’m so glad to see actors/actresses who can overcome their personal issues and make it work on the set! Although in this case, I suppose you could have marked up any visible hostility to sibling rivalry, and considering their family history, it may have just added to the character’s dynamics… big brother always covering for little brother who takes advantage of big brother’s kindness, yeah, that could lead to some latent hostility!

In a recent TV Guide magazine, William Keck answered the question “How does David Boreanaz get along with Brendan Fehr, who plays his brother Jared on Bones?” The answer was enlightening. The opening line to his answer is “Better than they used to.” Huh? Apparently the two actors did have a real-life scuffle that started a few years back after they played against each other at a celebrity hockey game. Brendan Fehr shared that “We had a pushing match, and we delved into our book of unflattering words to call each other.” David added that they “ended up getting into a brawl on the ice and things were said. We were pushing each other around, as hockey players to. And then he backed off.” (Good for you Brendan!)

brendan_fehr

It also sounds like the two hadn’t truly gotten over their scuffle on the ice since Brendan admitted that although he was surprised that David approved of his being cast as his brother, the two of them ended up getting along while on set. Whew, big sigh of relief there! But, with that being said, he also admitted that he would “have no problems punching David in the face,” and expects that David would most likely react the same. Yikes. “And then we’d have a beer after.”

Oh, okay. Must be a guy thing…

More Booth background to come!

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Untitled-1

After the episode was over and it was revealed that the introduction of Booth’s little brother wasn’t going to push a wedge in between Booth and Bones, I came to decide that I really liked meeting the younger Booth. He gave us some insight into Booth’s background that helped flesh out who he is a little better. I’m enjoying getting to know some of the characters even more - beyond their relationships with each other that is. And now it looks like we’ll get to find out even more about Booth’s growing-up years as we get to meet Booth’s father and possibly grand-father in upcoming episodes.

According to TV Guide’s William Keck, we will meet Booth’s dad later this season. He is an “ex-military man-turned-barber” and we should probably expect some tension if not some fireworks with the introduction of his character. During sessions with his therapist Dr. Gordon Wyatt (Stephen Fry - yay he’s back!), Booth finally opens up. Have to say I’m surprised to hear that! We learned previously that Booth’s father was an alcoholic and was apparently abusive since Booth would take care of his younger brother Jared. David Boreanaz says “Booth’s father had some issues. We’re going to find out more about how painful it was for me growing up with that man. My grandfather was a much nicer person.”

james-garner1

Booth’s grandfather should also be an interesting addition to the Bones cast - even if he is around for only an episode or so. There’s no official word as of the latest TV Guide info on who will be playing grandpa, but Hart Hanson said that James Garner topped his wish list, which he actually revealed to us in the panel the Bones cast/crew participated in at the Paley Center. Grandpa is a fighter-pilot hero and even saved Booth’s life at one point. Guess we’ll have to wait until his appearance in late April to find out what the story there is…

I’m sure it will be worth the wait!

A Booth/Bones hook-up is official!

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Untitled-1

It has finally been confirmed - in writing - that a Booth/Bones hook-up is coming! And it’s going to be for real, meaning no dream sequence, no drug-induced lapse in judgment or anything else other than absolutely, for-real, two consenting adults together in bed. In bed meaning actually having sex.

We’ve been teased for what seems like forever of whether or not Booth and Bones would ever get together, and after their kiss last Christmas, we’ve all been wondering when the writers would stop pulling our chain. When they introduced Booth’s little brother, we were concerned. That budding romance was quickly snuffed out (in the very same episode it began!) but we were still left with the ultimate question: will they or won’t they? And if they do, then when?

boothbones-1

Well, it looks like we won’t have to wait too much longer. TV Guide’s William Keck tells us that he spoke with Hart Hanson, the show’s creator, that this year’s season finale we will get to find out that Booth and Bones are “actually in bed having sex. And they won’t be able to just walk away from what happened. It will have serious ramifications.”

I’ll say! After four seasons of their parry and thrust routine, dancing around the issue and making it obvious to everyone around them (including Bone’s own father - who came right to the point with Booth and asked him why he wasn’t sleeping with his daughter!) there’s no way they could just sleep together and then pretend it never happened.

Looks like we’ve got one heck of a season finale coming up… I just hope that their physical connection doesn’t wreak havoc on their working relationship! But hey, they’re two intelligent adults (and the writers are good) so hopefully it will only add to the show…

Gina Torres’s guest spot on bones

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

I love seeing actors/actresses from one show cross over into another show. I like making connections of who I remember seeing in a different show. I especially like when I can make the connection and my husband can’t - guess it’s the competitive spark in me! (That, and the fact that I’m good at this “game” and he’s not… finally something I’m better at than he is!)

gina-torres

Just recently, in The Bone that Blew, I got a kick out of seeing Gina Torres in a guest spot. Her role as suspect Dr. Toni Ezralow wasn’t a huge deal, and she won’t be a re-occurring character, but it was still neat. If you don’t get the connection, you might remember her from her five episode, re-occurring role in Angel - starring alongside of David Boreanaz as Jasmine.

She’s also co-starred with Nathan Fillion in Firefly (and later in the movie Serenity) that was another baby of Joss Whedon, so I guess she’s kind of like David Boreanaz who is pretty well immersed in the Whedonverse. I wonder what it was like for them to be working together again…

What’s Eric Millegan up to these days?

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

As much as we all miss Zack, it looks like Eric Millegan is up to big things without Bones to keep him occupied. According to TheaterMania, Eric Millegan has a busy January ahead of him!

Eric is going back to his roots to take part in Broadway in Concert! At the Canyon, a new series of Wednesday night concerts by Broadway stars and nightclub artists in California. Millegan’s part in the show will run on January 14, and he will perform songs from Godspell, Big River, No, No Nanette, Snoopy, and Jesus Christ Superstar. Before Millegan began his TV career, he had already put 10 years of theater experience under his belt to rave reviews, one of which said that Millegan has a “winning stage presence and a sweet, melodious tenor.”

Wish I could be there - sounds like a really great show, and what Bones fan wouldn’t want to see our beloved “Zack” perform onstage?

Welcome to the newest Bones fan!

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Hey guys! I hope to be able to keep up a little bit better now, but I do want to warn you that life here at our house just got a little more complicated… so we’ll see how it goes!

We have welcomed (FINALLY) the newest Bones fan to our family! It will be many years before she’s actually able to enjoy actually watching the show with us, and by then it will probably have been in reruns for years, but hey, the chemistry of the characters, the great writing and storylines, and the beautiful people won’t change! (I can’t say I’d object to her growing up to think the David Boreanaz is “SOOO CUTE!!”)

So, join me in welcoming Kara to the Bones family! She was born Dec. 30th at 6:07AM and weighed in at 8lbs 11.5oz (a whole 2.5oz bigger than her older brother!) and is 21″ long. She’s a cutie!

Enjoy your New Year’s celebrations and don’t miss the next day’s Bones celebrations!

Apologies and a belated Merry Christmas!

Friday, December 26th, 2008

First off, I want to apologize for being AWOL for so long! We’ve been awaiting the arrival of baby #2 with the assumption that she would be in as much of a hurry to get here like her big brother was - 3 weeks early - but it seems that she’s quite comfortable to stay put! So, we’ve been frantic to get as ready as possible for her arrival, which still has yet to happen!

Sooo, pair that with the craziness that typically comes with the Christmas season and we’ve been quite nutty here at our house. Now the holidays are over, and we’re still waiting - but only for a few more days! We’re determined that she arrive in the year 2008, and apparently so is our doctor, so we should finally be able to meet the little girl by the 30th of December. Thus beginning another bout of craziness, only not “holiday related” - unless you count New Years…

Anyway, I just wanted to say sorry for not being around to update you on our beloved show Bones, AND I wanted to say that I hope all of you had a WONDERFUL Christmas holiday, or Hannakuh, or Kwanzaa, or whatever it is you celebrate this time of year! Get ready, New Years is just a few days away - one more big bang to celebrate before we go back to the normal every-day drudgery!

Make it a great one!

Bones makes the countdown twice recently

Friday, December 5th, 2008

I get a kick out of the Countdown in the TV Guide magazine. It’s different each week and spotlights different shows and actors. I especially like to see my favorite shows/people in the article. Bones has made the countdown list twice in the past few issues of the magazine.

Back in October, David Boreanaz made the list - topped it actually at number 1 - as the countdown took a look at TV’s sexiest undead creatures. While audience favorite Mick St. John from the recently canned show Moonlight made the list at number 6, David screamed past him as Angel from the Buffy/Angel series favorite sexy vampire at number 1. They said:

Tall, dark and deadly never looked so good. From the first night Buffy’s 270-year-old bloodsucking beau started lurking on the mean streets of Sunnydale, it was clear that beneath the leather jacket, buffness and super-sharp teeth resided a tortured soul - one legions of fans would risk their neck to comfort.

Who’s watching Bones?

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

This just goes to show that people really do pay attention to the details! I never would have caught something like this, but I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not the most observant to the little things… I just tonight caught a reference to another movie in a film I’ve seen countless times that I probably should have caught right away…

In TV Guide’s November 17th issue, Capt. MC USN Ret. Thomas Himes wrote in to point out a mistake on the recent Bones episode The Con Man in the Meth Lab. Apparently, the hat that Jared Booth was carrying on the show as part of his character is worn only by full commanders and captains. Booth was supposed to be a Lieutenant Commander. (Not sure myself what the difference in ranks is - but at least I know enough to understand that it does matter!)

Well, we won’t hold it against them, but the people in charge of the details need to watch out - you’re being watched!

Happy Birthday Emily Deschanel!

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

Today is year 32 for Emily! Congrats and hope it was a great one!

Emily Deschanel in Statement Magazine

Friday, October 10th, 2008

GREAT shot of Emily Deschanel from the “Green Issue” of Statement Magazine. I love the caption - considering how we all know how active Emily is in different environmental and animal rights causes. It says “I’m really not an activist by nature.” Kind of ironic, but funny.

About Watching Bones

Who doesn’t love forensic anthropology? Okay, so maybe not, but throw in David Boreanaz and an FBI agent and former sniper along with Emily Deschanel as anthropologist-by-day and best selling author-by-night, as well as other awesome cast members TJ Thyne, Micheala Conlin, Tamara Taylor, and Eric Millegan, and you’ve got a mix for an awesome show. That’s just what you get with Bones. A crime drama that has great wit, great writing, and obviously a great cast; Deschanel’s character Temperance “Bones? Brennan is socially illiterate, although brilliant, and balances out Boreanaz’s character Agent Seeley Booth as they work together to solve sometimes years-old murders. Backed by the “squints? at the Jeffersonian Museum, this team is unstoppable, but it’s the people and the relationships that really make the show. Don’t miss a minute of it!
