Booth in the tub clip

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

There may have been many, many complaints from us Bones fans about the way the season ended. There was much we felt was left our or unexplained to our satisfaction, however we can’t completely disown the final episode. It most definitely had it’s redeeming moments that were classic of the Bones we know and love.

Sure, the Booth-is-dead thing could have made an entire episode in itself, but hey, they were pressed for time. Sure, we could have done with a few more episodes to build up and/or help explain how in the world Zach converted to a cold-blooded killer, and what the heck happened to him while he was in Iraq, but hey, they were pressed for time. It really sucks that so much great storyline got tossed due to the strike that seems to still be biting us in the butt even after it’s over. But, like I said, our show is still around, and although it’s back on hiatus until the fall, we were left with some gratifying scenes. Don’t believe me? Maybe you don’t remember this one…

Did anyone else notice he was reading a Green Lantern comic book? The character he voiced in the new Jusitce League movie?

Or how about this one? Repressed feelings anyone? I don’t think anyone except maybe Bones and Booth don’t know these two are meant to be together (and that would mostly be because of denial and repression!)

These are just two of some of the great moments from the season finale. I guess the best part is that we have next season to look forward to.

Interview on the Season Finale of Bones

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

We’ve heard the rumors, we’ve watched anxiously for some kind of clues about the ending, but tomorrow night we finally get to see what brilliance the writers have come up with for the season finale of Bones. Below, Zap2it has an interview with the cast and crew of Bones to give us a little (very little) insight into what we can expect to see. Oh, yeah, just in case you don’t want to know:

spoiler-alert.jpg

No, really, the article is great, but it’s doesn’t’ reveal anything terribly earth-shattering. Filled mostly with a lot of vaugeries and illusions to things we’ve heard elsewhere, the interview basically just whets our appetites for tomorrow night. Oh, and Hart Hanson works hard to steer us onto the wrong path and gets himself a little confused in the process, but that’s something you’ll just have to see for yourself. Read on below to see for yourself…

It’s April on the set of Bones. The beautifully dressed stage that represents the Jeffersonian is bathed in a murky haze and smells of manufactured smoke and Chinese food. The Gormogon killer has struck again.

[This story contains some spoilers and some speculation. Be warned!]

To be fair, craft services deserves the credit for the Chinese aromas. The Gormogon is only responsible for the odor of sulfur, which is pumping from long tubes onto the set, setting the stage for the show’s third season finale, which will air on Monday, May 19.

A bomb has gone off at the Jeffersonian, but I probably shouldn’t tell you who its victim was. I probably shouldn’t mention which regular member of the cast is wearing tattered gloves and having his or her hands slathered with KY-Jelly to simulate what looks to be a potentially crippling injury. I probably shouldn’t tell you what’s happened to David Boreanaz’s Booth in the aftermath of the bullet he took to the chest in last week’s episode, except to say that Boreanaz is the only major cast member I didn’t talk to for this story.

Any context for the explosion and the events of the finale might, in fact, might be damning.

As Bones creator Hart Hanson puts it, “We can’t have you getting the context. Because if you knew what happened at the beginning, it would be a disaster and if you knew what happened at the end it would be a disaster.”

The most important thing that can be revealed about the finale is that not only will the Gormogon return, but the killer’s reign of terror will come to an end after a season of steady investigation.

“He worked slowly into this,” reflects T.J. Thyne of the killer, whose appearances have been woven into the third season. “He’s been around a while at this point.”

“I’m glad he’s back, though,” adds Tamara Taylor. “It’s just such a creepy, creepy storyline.”

“Creepy” is, in fact, the first word that comes to several of the stars’ lips when attempting to describe the killer, known for his appetite for flesh-eating and skeleton sculptures.

bones-angela.jpg

“It’s pretty creepy, when you think about it,” agrees Emily Deschanel, whose Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan somewhat gives the show its name. “Maybe because I got buried alive by The Gravedigger, I’m more terrified of the Gravedigger? But now it’s hitting close to home with the Gormogon thing. It’s creepy, the secret society thing, killing all these people off, and just secret societies in general. And then you have people eating not just one person, but they’ve invited people to dinner, quote-unquote.”

In the process of catching Gormogon, the Jeffersonian team will inevitably have to reveal his (or her) identity, a process that’s stymied fans of the show throughout the season.

“There really haven’t been that many clues and I don’t think anyone could have guessed,” Taylor, who plays Dr. Cam Saroyan on the FOX drama, admits.

Thyne, known to fans as Dr. Jack Hodgins, insists, “I had a few hunches.”

He doesn’t offer to share.

Don’t expect Hanson to offer any hints either. Quite the opposite.

“I’m not telling you who it is, but it’s shocking,” Hanson offers. “It’s shocking and it’s not not someone you have never seen before. No. Yes it is. It is someone you’ve not… No. No. It’s not not someone you’ve seen before.”

Did Hanson just confuse himself? Or is the Gormogon indeed somebody we’ve met before this season?

Another person not prone to giving away excessive information is John Francis Daley, whose baby-faced shrink Dr. Lance Sweets also first appeared earlier this season, which more than a few viewers suspect isn’t a total coincidence.

“I can’t really get into it, but everyone gets to go to a pretty dark place by the end of the season,” Daley says.

Michaela Conlin, whose Angela Montenegro has spent much of the season trying to track down her first husband to open the door for new nuptials with Hodgins, says that there are certain advantages to the murky places the finale gets to go.

“This episode in particular, it’s a very intense episode,” Conlin says. “When I read it, I nearly fell off my chair. I think it’s incredibly surprising for many reasons and shocking from start to finish. The great thing about these episodes is that we’re all working together in the show. A lot of times the show will be split between David and Emily and maybe T.J. and me, but this episode is a lot of us working as a team and those are always… they promote a lot giggling on the show.”

Perhaps the combination of giggling and intensity is why Thyne says, “It’s been a rollercoaster, this episode. Emotionally, it’s been a crazy rollercoaster for the actors as well as the characters. There’s a lot happening.”

And where will the episode find our heroes when it ends?

“Devastated in the beginning,” Taylor says. “Devastated at the end.”

Interviews from The Wannabe in the Weeds

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

I realize the episode has already aired, but I always enjoy seeing the actors talk about their work and give us some behind-the-scenes info. It’s just kind of neat to see how they work together to give us the finished product that we see every Monday night.

Here’s a quick interview from Emily Deschanel about the episode The Wannabe in the Weeds. She talks about having nightmares that made her a little “jittery” about singing. She also mentions that she and David Boreanaz are Idol fans. Brandon Rogers also talks briefly about having met Deschanel and Boreanaz previously.

And here’s a quick video interview with Emily and then Emily and David together. I love their chemistry - the fact that they work hard on the show is benefited so much from the fact that they’re also friends. They talk about David giving Emily pointers and “notes” about the singing she does in the episode. Guess his previous karaoke experience came in handy here…

Hodgins said what?

Monday, May 5th, 2008

I can’t even begin to imagine how these people get their hands on the info they do - I crawl the web as often as my 15-month-old will let me for new scoops, but apparently I’m not looking in the right places (or I don’t have the right connections.)

The Bones Spoilers on LiveJournal have a slew of spoilers posted (hence the name), but on that they’ve got is just too good not to share. So, here goes:

spoiler-alert.jpg

Looks like some of the lines from the upcoming The Finger in the Nest has been leaked, and these guys were kind enough to share. One of the lines for TJ Thyne’s character Hodgins is: “First, my best friend who used to work here, with me, he got into some big trouble and… he’s locked up now and I miss him…”

emillegan.jpg

Okay, we can assume he’s talking about Zach since we already know that Bones is getting a new grad student. But what’s he locked up for? Some of the speculation on the boards is that he’s Gormagon, but I don’t buy it. I’m going to guess it has something to do with the time he spent in Iraq - we never did get the full story on why he came home like he did. I don’t think he was a deserter or anything, and I don’t expect it to be anything huge, but who knows, I could be seriously surprised. And with awesome writers like the show has, I’m sure the way it pans out will be great.

Also, later he also says: And Angela - you know Angela, she and I used to - we were engaged to be married, and well, that went south, too.

I don’t know what to think about this one. If you believe Ausiello, we’ve been promised more kissing - but not necessarily from Bones/Booth, so I assumed it was the Angela/Hodgins deal. Maybe not? But really, can you see the writers breaking up our only satisfying relationship on the show? Oh well, guess we’ll have to wait and see! What agony!

More awesome Bones scoop!

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

spoiler-alert.jpg

I cannot say this enough - there are some serious spoilers to come, so be warned! Michael Ausiello gave us not one, not two, but three scoops on Bones and what we have to look forward to. Considering Bones isn’t one of the shows that graces his column in TVGuide each week, this is the motherload! Anyway, here’s what he had to say… Oh, and don’t take the Sarah Michelle Gellar thing (or the season 6 and 7 predictions for that matter, although who really knows?) to heart. Although seeing her as a guest star might not be that bad!

kiss.jpg

Question: Are Booth and Brennan going to do any more kissing this season on Bones? — S.W.
Ausiello:
Probably not this season. But next season? You betcha. Exec producer Hart Hansen confirms that the two Bs will “definitely” lock lips for real sometime in Season 4. “I figure, we’re going into [our fourth season],” he says, “and we’ve had the fake kiss. So we need to go to the next step.” At this rate, I’m guessing the rest of their relationship will unfold thusly:

Season 5: Sex
Season 6: Marriage
Season 7: Baby Bones
Season 8: Sarah Michelle Gellar turns up as Booth’s never-before-seen demon-hunting ex.

Question: You can’t just leave me hanging as to why Bones is looking for a new full-time forensic anthropologist. Who’s leaving? — Katie
Ausiello:
Actually, I just double-checked the Ask Ausiello rulebook, and I can leave you hanging. Not only that, but I can even heighten your anxiety if I want. Which reminds me: Did I tell you about the two deaths coming up? One of them occurs in the May 12 episode, the other in the May 19 season finale.

Question: Do you have any Bones scoop? — Gerri
Ausiello:
I’m trying to think of something that’s bigger than the kiss and the two deaths I just told you about. Oh, here’s something: There’s a very good chance that the fourth-season premiere will air on Aug. 26 and be two hours long. And that’s not the best part. No, the best part is waiting for you in this week’s Ausiello Report vodcast!

Oh, and since the vodcast isn’t posted here, let’s just say that the “best part” he refers to is that Bones will be shooting in England. We knew they were looking overseas, so they’ve made their decision - it should be fun seeing Bones in jolly old England! Think she has connections to the Queen? I wouldn’t doubt it!

The Baby in the Bough preview

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Not really sure if this counts as a spoiler, so I didn’t post the uber-huge black and red “spoiler logo” - so please be warned. Really, this is just the preview for this coming Monday’s episode The Baby in the Bough, so it shouldn’t be anything terribly spoil-y about it, unless you don’t even watch the previews. In which case, you get the drift.

Interview with Ian Toynton - Bones director

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Ian Toynton is definitely sold on the show. Makes sense since he’s a director for several episodes. As such, it’s his responsibility to make sure that the “tone” of the show stays consistent from episode to episode and director to director. In this brief interview he talks about the look of the show and his work with the sets as well as the cast. Toynton says that the show is a great one to work on because it has a little bit of everything - humor, romance, suspense, drama. Not to mention that the cast is great to work with. The relationships between the cast members - on and off the show - make for a good working environment, and the show reflects the delicate balance of the personal, more emotional relationships and the more procedural part of the show that comes from the drama of dealing with a serial killer.

Anyway, don’t take my word for it - see the video interview for yourself!

E!’s Kristin talks to Bones cast/crew at Paley

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

spoiler-alert.jpg

ed-hh.jpg
Emily Deschanel and Hart Hanson

The videos were great to see the cast and writers in their element, interacting with fans and each other, but Kristin from E! was able to chat them up before their panel at the Paley Center. They answer some pretty good fan questions about the end of Season 3 and a little bit about Season 4. And, as always, they leave us drooling and wanting more. Just another sign of a great show!

They discuss the episode that was pulled last year (that will air this year), the Gormagon, Angela’s husband and the potential for another wedding, the repercussions of Bones and Booth’s kiss, and the potential for more kissing. They also talk briefly about shooting an episode or few overseas in London and the storyline for Booth’s family - with the possibility of working in more story for his son.

This mysterious husband of Angela’s is sounding more and more interesting… and I’m curious if we’ll see more of Azura Skye who played Miss Plimset, the investigator who found the guy in Florida to begin with. She’s an odd character. (She also has background in the Buffyverse - as well as House, CSI, and Smallville, just to name a few.)

Anna in Oklahoma City: “Player Under Pressure,” the episode that was pulled last season, is scheduled to air this month. Did you end up shooting new footage to replace the Angela-Hodgins engagement scenes, or is the original episode going to air?

Conlin (Angela Montenegro): “We did shoot new footage. They were restricted by some of our haircuts and who had facial hair and who didn’t, so Tamara [Taylor] (Dr. Camille Saroyan) and I had some scenes together, and then so did T.J. [Thyne] (Dr. Jack Hodgins) and I.”

mc-em.jpg
Michaela Conlin and Eric Millegan

Nicole in Seattle: Will there be another Angela-Hodgins wedding this year?

Conlin: “Well, I will say that I know the ex-husband is arriving—I believe it’s happening in the last two episodes of this season. And I’m hoping to sit in on the casting sessions. There are gonna be chemistry tests.”

Bones bloopers

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Check out this video showcasing some of the Season 2 bloopers from Bones. There’s plenty of profanity, blowing of raspberries, funny faces, forgotten lines, and general goofiness to enjoy! One of my favorite is David Boreanaz as Booth giving us a close-up on his beautiful smile - as in through a magnifying glass close-up!

There’s a funny bedroom scene with Emily Deschanel (Bones) and Eddie McClintock (Sulley) under the covers, and Boreanaz does a little dance step more than once. We see a silly side of Eric Millegan’s character Zach, and what appears to be a fly-by air attack. There’s an unscripted Booth/Bones kiss, and loads of uncontrollable giggles.

Squeaky nose jokes, more cussing, and what blooper reel would be complete without the all-time favorite, the fart joke. Anyway, don’t just take my word for it, check it out! (They make having and doing their jobs look like so much fun.)

Bones is back!

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Well, technically just about all of the shows are back - or will be soon, but since this blog is about Bones, well, you get the idea.

Starting April 14th, we loyal fans will receive not only the four episodes promised us once the strike ended, but an additional two - making for a total of SIX new episodes. (insert wild cheering here.)

Oh, and we’ll get to enjoy them back on Mondays again. Hurray for us! Too bad some of the other shows didn’t fare as well. Heroes won’t have any new episodes until the fall - however they will be treated to a 22-plus episode season (according to TV Guide), so I guess that makes up for it. Dirty Sexy Money and Pushing Daisies both are out of luck since they’ll both have to wait until fall for new episodes, 24’s season 7 was completely postponed until January of 2009. And that’s just a few… For more info on who’s airing what, check it out at TV Guide.

Vote online for your favorite Bones couple

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

bonescouplestherapy11.jpg

TVGuide is running a poll of “Winning Pairs” - TV couples that make your heart go pitter-patter. Our Bones show actually has managed to rate not one but two couples on the list! Go and log in and make sure to vote for your favorite - Booth and Bones or Angela and Hodgins. That’s a tough call if you ask me. Angela and Hodgins definitely have a pretty awesome relationship, while the obvious chemistry and sexual tension between Booth and Bones makes up for the fact that they haven’t actually gotten together.

The only other show on the list I watch is Smallville, and since I’m so over the Clark/Lana thing, that’s no competition. (The other choice for them is Clark/Lois, but they haven’t technically started a relationship yet, so no contest there either.)

Other shows in the running are: Ugly Betty, Chuck, The Office, Private Practice, CSI: NY, Friday Night Lights, Numbers, Men in Trees (never even heard of this one…), Grey’s Anatomy, Moonlight, Pushing Daisies, Gossip Girl, and Battlestar Galactica.

Oh, and just in case you’re wondering, Booth and Bones are running in second place, just behind Mick and Beth of the show Moonlight. Kind of ironic that the hottest couple voted on so far is a vampire and a human… Sound familiar to anyone?

David Boreanaz radio interview

Monday, December 24th, 2007

db-pic.jpg

Check out this online interview with David Boreanaz on Radio 1. He talks with host Nihal and the interview is about 18 minutes long. Well worth your time. The interview does take place before the Halloween episode, so there’s nothing “new” about the show, and some of what they talk about is old news, but it’s still a neat interview to hear.

David beings by talking about the recent Led Zepplin concert he attended, and then moves into discussing the music he likes. He says he’s a big fan of Amy Winehouse, and wishes her well in her career.

David later talks about his working relationship with both Buffy star Sarah Michelle Gellar and Bones co-star Emily Deschanel. He says that they’re both incredible actresses, but is posed with a difficult question as to who he would choose to work with if he had to. He is extremely diplomatic about it, but does admit that if he absolutely had to choose between the two, he would choose Emily!

For his older fans, (older as in we’ve followed him since before Bones - not necessarily because we’re old…) he says that the Buffy and Angel fans are great – an not as weirdly obsessed as some may think.

David joking admits that it was difficult working with Emily dressed as Wonder Woman in her skimpy little outfit… but goes on to say that the Halloween episode was a great episode to be a part of.

Oh, and did you know there’s a new catchphrase from Bones – “I ended up with the gum!” He even sings a little bit of his “up and coming” new hit single titled the same. I love David, but maybe he should keep his day job…

David confirms once and for all that he is voicing Hal Jordan aka the Green Lantern on the new Justice League movie. He also addresses the writers strike and how it’s affecting all of the shows currently shooting new episodes.

He’s just too awesome, he even honors a listener’s request and wishes their wife a happy birthday over the air. I have to agree with Nihal, he sounds like a male version of Marilyn Monroe doing the happy birthday to the president thing… but hey, it’s David Boreanaz, he can get away with it!

A fan’s review of Enchanted

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007

mconlin.jpg

I just saw the movie Enchanted the other night, and I have to say it was cute. Not something I would take my husband to see, and definitely something that I wouldn’t recommend for anyone not tolerant of cutesey, fantastical movies, but still, it was cute. The premise was - in case you’re not familiar - was that an animated fairy-tale girl who had fallen in love with and was about to marry a prince was thrown down a well in cast out of cartoon-land and into the real-life New York City. Okay, so far so corny. If you got past the first five or ten minutes of cartoon-y singing, you’re well on your way to the rest of the cute story!

Of course, the prince can’t let his soon-to-be princess perish, so he dives in after her, but she has already wandered off, confused and lost. She retains her fairy-tale sweetness and naivete, and is absurdly trusting and very obviously not from around town. She runs into a man and his daughter, who is immediately taken by finding a real princess in the middle of the city, and the little girl talks her dad into helping her out. What starts out as a simple offer to come in and dry off turns in to allowing her to stay the night.

I could tell you more about it, but that would be giving it all away - and considering how unpredictable a story like this is, that just wouldn’t be fair. (By the way, that was sarcasm…) But, the reason you would even care about this “oh-so-cute” movie is because our own beloved Michaela Conlin is in it. If you haven’t seen the movie yet and are interesting in going to see her part in it, let me tell you right now: Don’t. Don’t get me wrong, it was - like I said - a cute movie. And Michaela is great in it - if you don’t blink. Her part is so brief it makes me sad. I was so excited to see her on the big screen, and I only recognized her as the camera moved away from her. I certainly don’t want to sound like I’m downing the movie, but I just want you to be forewarned.

Oh, and if you do see it and you think it’s cheesy at the beginning, just wait until the end. Then, tell me what you really thought of the movie as a whole!

Kristin’s Bones speculation…

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

bb.jpg Kristin’s Spoiler Chat on E!Online covers a slew of shows, so I regret to say that Bones only gets a quick glance in the midst of all the others. However, she does make a reference that makes me feel a little uninformed. She suggests that the B & B kiss from the last new episode we saw is going to be harder on Bones than it is on Booth - which I can kind of see. If you ask me though, I thought they both looked pretty shook up from it! (It was just so great, I can’t get over it…)

She also mentioned that “Someone’s suffering physically as well…” and I have to say that I have no idea what she’s talking about. Forgive me, I’m a bad, bad Bones fan I guess. Anybody have a thought? Please do share!

Guess that gives me a good excuse to go back and re-watch the past few episodes that I have recorded on the media center though!

Mummy in a Maze

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

mummy.jpg

I love how Booth smashes through the maze. It kind of seems like Bones’ analytical mind would have helped them find their way through the maze a little faster, especially with someone giving directions, but I guess since she couldn’t correctly identify a scarecrow, maybe that’s a bad assumption…

And Booth is afraid of clowns? Maybe that explains why he shot the clown on the ice cream truck last season. When the lady says the corpse she saw in the funhouse was past the killer clown the panic was written all over his face! His little girl-like yelp when Bones came up behind him and later when the clown moved was priceless!

I also got a big kick out of how Bones joined into the interrogation of Greg. When Booth starts smacking him around, instead of defending Greg’s rights or questioning Booths’ tactics, Bones joins in and hit him also! It’s great – she’s going with Booth’s lead and almost seems to enjoy herself!

There was one exchange between Booth and Bones that really sums up their working relationship on the show. (Notice I didn’t say relationship as in their entire relationship – that’s way too complicated to sum up easily!)

Booth: I’ll deal with Lola, you go back to the lab.
Bones: Why? I won’t hit her unless you say so
Booth: Look, I’ll do my street thing, you do your lab thing. Together, we catch bad guys. That’s good math.

And in all fairness, I have to say that Bones’ terrified reaction at the snakes was pretty amusing. Considering how she is so emotionally detached for almost everything else, her fear of the snakes seems a little irrational for her.

Her line about not being totally in control of her actions was a little understated as she stood on top of a barrel and then jumped on Booth’s back. (Okay, she didn’t technically jump, but you get the picture.) The fact that she allowed herself to be carried, piggy-back style, by Booth was pretty funny, and stood as good evidence that her statement was very accurate! And after she had shot him!

I have to admit, as the story was unfolding, I was guessing it was going to be the pastor that was behind the murders. Seems like religious leaders always get the bad wrap in the media… it just made sense. But when it turned out to be the paramedic and Booth was the one who identified him, that was good logic. Although I’m a little confused about how Booth knew the guy had had military experience. Regardless, this episode was really awesome.

Of course, their costumes were pretty awesome too… I loved to see Bones spinning around, in her Wonder Woman costume, wielding her arm cuffs as if fending off bullets. It shows us a little bit of the girl she used to be before she became Dr. Temperance Brennan. Who knows, maybe we’ll get to see a little bit more of her as their sessions with Sweets continue. After all, didn’t they actually put some stock into the profile he provided for their killer? I guess stranger things have happened…

About Watching Bones

Who doesn’t love forensic anthropology? Okay, so maybe not, but throw in David Boreanaz and an FBI agent and former sniper along with Emily Deschanel as anthropologist-by-day and best selling author-by-night, as well as other awesome cast members TJ Thyne, Micheala Conlin, Tamara Taylor, and Eric Millegan, and you’ve got a mix for an awesome show. That’s just what you get with Bones. A crime drama that has great wit, great writing, and obviously a great cast; Deschanel’s character Temperance “Bones” Brennan is socially illiterate, although brilliant, and balances out Boreanaz’s character Agent Seeley Booth as they work together to solve sometimes years-old murders. Backed by the “squints” at the Jeffersonian Museum, this team is unstoppable, but it’s the people and the relationships that really make the show. Don’t miss a minute of it!
