Macs make it big on Bones

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

It’s a constant war in my house - Mac or PC. Since I’m in the design field and Macs have proven themselves over and over and over to be the best for design work, obviously I’m a Mac fan. It doesn’t hurt that I’ve used Mac since the beginning. But, my husband disagrees. Since his first computer, he’s been a die-hard PC guy. Considering his work is very specifically in IT, you can imagine his loyalty. However, he has begun to bend ever so slightly after getting me a new MacBook Pro to do work on at the house. He’s got something on it that allows us to run the Mac and switch over to run the PC on the Mac when we want to. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to run him off of MY computer because I need to do work and he’s on it because it’s convenient. (Besides the fact that he has his own laptop - but it’s a PC…)

Anyway, the point in all this exposition, is that Macs are making more and more of a public image/name for themselves. Don’t believe me? (more…)

Catholics take issue with the latest Bones episode

Monday, October 13th, 2008

It stands to reason that will all the various subject matter Bones takes on, the show is going to offend some people. Add in the fact that you’ve paired a stout believer in science and facts with a good Catholic FBI agent as the two main characters, and the religious debates alone are going to cause a few raised eyebrows - to say the least!

Well, it seems that this last week’s episode, “The He in the She,” has done just that - and not with just any old regular Joe. The Catholic League has issued a statement regarding this most recent episode in regards to some of the dialog and the way the issues were treated. The statement issued was:

Bones comes out on top!

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Okay, second from the top, but still, come on - that’s awesome! On the Nielsen TV Ratings, Bones came in second in it’s time slot for ratings during the season premiere last week. With and estimated 9.69 million viewers, it was outranked only by - huh?!? - America’s Got Talent on NBC with 10.15 million viewers. Weird.

The funny thing is that since it was a two-hour event, there was double the time for people to join in. Oddly enough, the viewers went up as the show went on, meaning that while it started out with only 8.77 million viewers, by the second half hour (8:30) it was up to 9.57 million. By 9:00 it was up again to 10.22 million - and that’s where it stayed until the show was over at 10:00. (Where they got the 9.69 since they finished with 10.22 I’m not really sure…)

I don’t know much about the whole ratings systems, and I’ve never taken much stock in what the “professional critics” or anyone say, but the numbers are still impressive. Way to go Bones!

Bones Season 3 coming out soon!

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Check it out! We can finally have all of Season 3 plus extras at our fingertips! Coming out November 18th, the set will run about $60.00, ($59.98 to be specific) but right now, Amazon has it for $41.99 as a pre-order.

The set will have 5 discs and will include two versions of the episode “The Player under Pressure,” the one we actually saw and the one that was shot originally and edited after the VT shootings. Oddly enough, it will also include the two-part season premier for season 4. Along with typical bonus material, director’s takes, the set will include gag reels, which are some of my favorite parts of TV on DVD.

So, the new season starts in September, then we can have Season 3 will all it’s extras in November - all just in time for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Hurray!

More stars join the superhero fray

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

David Boreanaz certainly isn’t the first star to lend his voice talent to the animated world of superheroes, but it seems that more and more are jumping on the bandwagon that are the comics-come-to-life. Keri Russell will star in the new animated DVD-movie “Wonder Woman.” Along with Russell, we’ll also get to hear Rosario Dawson, Alfred Molina, Virginia Madsen, and Nathan Fillion (oddly enough, another Whedonverse alumni - from both Buffy and Firefly.) (Fillion and Russell also worked together on the film “Waitress.”)

Russell said about the movie that it is “funny and action-packed and adult in a nice way.”

I wonder what comic-book character will be next, and what stars we’ll get to see play the parts… It’d be nice to hear Boreanaz in another film - but I guess we’ll just have to wait to see what happens! The Justice League certainly is a good comic to see continued.

What has David “snickering”?

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

I love the Watch with Kristin blog at E!online. She gets some of the greatest scoops… Check out her latest on Bones:

Where Are They Now: According to show runner Hart Hanson, when the series premieres in the fall, we’ll pick up several months after last season’s finale, having missed “the amount of time that actually has passed.” He also says this about the only thing you really care about (admit it!), the Bones and Booth romance: “We want to keep them apart as long as we can without annoying the audience, and there are a number of ways to do that. We use a number of little steam valves to release the pressure.” Boreanaz snickers at this, and Hanson shoots back, “I didn’t mean masturbation, David!” Also, according to Ms. Emily Deschanel, this season the show explores “how being left at the altar affected them.”

Zack’s Back: Eric Millegan (and Hanson) confirm Zack Addy will be back this season, but they won’t confirm when or how. Eric did say, “He was sent home from Iraq early, and we’re going to explore why…”

Squint Love: Michaela Conlin (Angela Montenegro) says of Angela and Jack‘s romance, “Angela is not one to be pinned down. She’s a free spirit who really fell in love. We’ve been working on finding my ex-husband. It should be pretty interesting.” My man, T.J. Thyne (Dr. Jack Hodgins), meanwhile, says, “I think Jack is madly, deeply and passionately in love with her.” All together now: Awww…

Shallow Impressions: I can report from here in the catbird seat that Boreanaz’s biceps are ridiculous—good ridiculous. He looks great on the show in the suits, but I think maybe a tight T-shirt now and again wouldn‘t be such a bad idea…

The Missing Episode: According to executive producer Stephen Nathan, “Player Under Pressure,” the ep that was pulled in the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings, will be reworked. The new version preserves the mystery elements and will bring the romantic storyline up to date. He expects it might air Dec. 7, and the old material (wherein Jack proposed to Angela) will hopefully appear on a DVD…sometime somewhere.

Extra Eps: Nathan tells me the network definitely wants the 28-episode season (because of the potential writers’ strike and because reruns don‘t “work” anymore), but he’s afraid postproduction limitations may prevent that from actually happening. He expects no fewer than 24 eps but says 28 might be stretching it. Start sending your nudge letters now.

Scene Shots: Exec producer Barry Josephson says they built out the FBI set this season, so look for more focus on the federales. And as a tease, he adds that the pressure releases for the Booth-Bones sexual tension may include more “third parties.”

Featurette: Emily did a DVD commentary with her real-life father, Caleb Deschanel, and Stephen Fry for “The Glowing Bones in the Old Stone House.”

I’m disappointed to hear they may be bringing in some more “third parties,” but I guess I understand why they would. And I guess that as much as I want to see Angela and Hodgins together, this newest twist to keep them apart - in so far as them not being married - is a pretty good storyline.

I also hate to hear that we may not get to see the missing episode… I guess that’s just one more great reason for us to all buy the DVD when it comes out!

Sale on Bones Season 1

Saturday, January 6th, 2007

bones1-dvd.jpg Ready for a great deal? Don’t miss out on Best Buy’s sale on Season One of Bones – only $19.99. Normally $49.98, this is an awesome deal! Not only can you catch episodes you may have missed or just re-watch an awesome show, the DVD comes with interviews with the cast members about how they prepared for their roles in Bones. There’s also a guide to the forensic terminology used in Bones, which is nice if you’re like me and need a little help with some of the stuff that goes on…

There’s no telling how long this sale will last, so make sure you take advantage of it while you can! (On a side note, if you want more of David Boreanaz, both the Buffy and Angel DVD sets are also on sale at BestBuy.com!)

Micheala Conlin in Enchanted

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007

If you’re a big fan of Micheala Conlin, keep your schedule open Wednesday, November 12th 2007. That’s currently the scheduled release date of a new Disney movie Enchanted in which Micheala will play the character May.

As odd as it may sound for Micheala to be playing in a Disney movie, this doesn’t sound like your typical Disney fare. The story is based on a princess who is exiled from her animated, fairy-tale land to the real world of Manhattan. Of course you know there’s got to be some romantic something in there, so expect to have a little love-related conflict in the mix. Okay, so maybe it souunds a little cheesy, but Disney has a good reputation, so I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt. Besides, it’s staring Susan Sarandon, James Marsden, Patrick Dempsey, and Amy Adams. And of course, our lovely Micheala.

The film will start out animated, everything I’ve read seems to imply that it will only be for the first 10 to 20 minutes of the film, so if you’re not a cartoon person, don’t despair. The animation will be a tribute to the old-style animation, so don’t go expecting any of the CG stuff we’ve all become accustomed to. A modern-day romance with a little bit of fairy-tale magic in it, the movie sounds like a cute family film.

All the plot outlines I’ve read are pretty brief, and pretty much all the same, and none of them actually mention what we can expect of the character May, but regardless, I’m looking forward to seeing Micheala on the big screen.

Also interesting, this film has been in the works since 1997. There have been three previous attempts to get this movie made, so hopefully the fourth time will be the charm. (I always thought it was supposed to be the third, but then what do I know?)

About Watching Bones

Who doesn’t love forensic anthropology? Okay, so maybe not, but throw in David Boreanaz and an FBI agent and former sniper along with Emily Deschanel as anthropologist-by-day and best selling author-by-night, as well as other awesome cast members TJ Thyne, Micheala Conlin, Tamara Taylor, and Eric Millegan, and you’ve got a mix for an awesome show. That’s just what you get with Bones. A crime drama that has great wit, great writing, and obviously a great cast; Deschanel’s character Temperance “Bones Brennan is socially illiterate, although brilliant, and balances out Boreanaz’s character Agent Seeley Booth as they work together to solve sometimes years-old murders. Backed by the “squints at the Jeffersonian Museum, this team is unstoppable, but it’s the people and the relationships that really make the show. Don’t miss a minute of it!
