Emily Deschanel’s little sister engaged!

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Looks like Emily Deschanel may need to carve out some time in her busy schedule to help her little sister plan a wedding! Zoey Deschanel, 28, is recently engaged to Ben Gibbard, 32. Gibbard is the singer for Death Cab for Cutie and a musician with Postal Service.

Congrats to the happy couple! And check out that ring! It’s gorgeous! It’s by “star jeweler” Neil Lane. Beautiful work…

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

Now that the holidays are upon us, we’re seeing a lot of holiday looks. I found this old shot from 2006 of Emily Deschanel and her little sister Zooey from the holiday issue of the NY Times Style Magazine. It’s funny how different the two sisters seem - with Emily appearing to be so sophisticated and formal, while Zooey seems to fit the role of the littler sister as being carefree and fun. (Not that Emily doesn’t seem fun, by you get what I’m saying.)

This really seems to be the same in most of the photos I’ve seen of the two sisters - either together or separately. The funny thing is that the little “blurb” about the girls on the shot seems to support this, saying that Zooey admits to being a “clothes horse” with closets filled with clothes while Emily describes herself as “cool and collected.” They both said that they don’t really differ too much from their on screen personae. Somehow I have a hard time seeing Emily as being as socially inept as Bones tends to be, but hey, whatever!

Anyway, I got a little distracted there - the whole reason I wanted to post this was just because of how beautiful Emily is in her red Christmas-y dress and fishnet stockings. Wish I could look something like that for our upcoming Christmas party!

Emily’s sister is really “Happening”

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

I guess it’s a safe bet to say that talent runs in the Deschanel family. We all know and love Emily Deschanel for her role as Temperance Brennan in Bones, but her little sister Zooey Deschanel is on her way to the big time (if one would say she’s not there already) with her supporting role in this summer’s hit The Happening.

Another of M. Night Shyamalan’s thrillers, The Happening is being called a “paranoid thriller” - whatever new label that is. The movie is about some phenomenon that causes people to commit suicide - in a completely calm and assured manner. Zooey Deschanel plays Alma Moore, the wife of Elliot Moore (played by Mark Wahlberg). Apparently the movie is pretty graphic, showing scenes up close and personal of a construction worker who has thrown himself off of a building site with arms and legs and bones snapped and twisted in strange positions due to the fall, complete with blood and gore. The graphic gore gets worse, but I won’t tell you any more about it. But it’s safe to say that this movie is most definitely not for the faint of heart.

Although the critics haven’t been terribly kind to the film, it seems that the audiences like it pretty well. Critic Roger Ebert said of the film, “It is no doubt too thoughtful for the summer action season, but I appreciate the quietly realistic way Shyamalan finds to tell a story about the possible death of man.” If you were a fan of M. Night Shamalan’s other films, this is one you probably want to check out. And be sure to take time to appreciate Zooey’s performance while you’re at it!

Emily’s little sister the songwriter

It’s no secret that the Deschanel family has it’s share of talent. We’re wowed by Emily’s performance on Bones, and her little sister Zooey Deschanel has made her own name known in the showbiz circuit as well. (And of course they’re both beautiful!) Now, she’s getting recognized for her musical talent as well!

Here is a photo out of a recent magazine that spotlights Zooey Deschanel along with M. Ward. (photo by John Huba) Zooey’s voice was showcased in the film Elf she stared in opposite Will Farrell, and now her voice will be in the Sundance film The Go-Getter, where she performs a Richard and Linda Thompson classic during the closing credits with M. Ward. After meeting him, Zooey happened to mention that she did some songwriting herself, and apparently she’s pretty good.

Ward said, “I was amazed by the quality.” He was so amazed, in fact, that he soon began producing her debut album. “I just had an incredible time working with her. She’s an amazing talent, and a genius vocalist… I’m looking forward to people hearing this record.” Her album is finished and should be released later this year.

Zooey is also picking up the pace in her professional life as she is working on a new M. Night Shyamalan movie The Happening, and will also star as Janis Joplin in The Gospel According To Janis. She has just recently starred in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford alongside of Brad Pitt. Not to mention the series Tin Man she’s taking part in on the SciFi channel… She’s one busy little bee!

(I wonder if the singing talent extends to Emily as well…)

About Watching Bones

Who doesn’t love forensic anthropology? Okay, so maybe not, but throw in David Boreanaz and an FBI agent and former sniper along with Emily Deschanel as anthropologist-by-day and best selling author-by-night, as well as other awesome cast members TJ Thyne, Micheala Conlin, Tamara Taylor, and Eric Millegan, and you’ve got a mix for an awesome show. That’s just what you get with Bones. A crime drama that has great wit, great writing, and obviously a great cast; Deschanel’s character Temperance “Bones Brennan is socially illiterate, although brilliant, and balances out Boreanaz’s character Agent Seeley Booth as they work together to solve sometimes years-old murders. Backed by the “squints at the Jeffersonian Museum, this team is unstoppable, but it’s the people and the relationships that really make the show. Don’t miss a minute of it!
