David Boreanaz supports charity through hockey
We all know how much David Boreanaz loves hockey, and now he has been given the chance to put his passion to good use. During the Sundance Festival in Utah, David got the opportunity to play in a celebrity hockey game to raise money for the nonprofit organization Echoes of Hope. The game was hosted by Luc Robitaille, a former NHL star and future Hall or Famer. Robitaille and his wife Stacia founded Echoes of Hope to help at-risk and emancipated foster children. Tickets were sold for $40 a piece and the crowd got to witness celebrities like David, Michael Rosenbaum (who plays Lex Luther on Smallville), Treat Williams (the dad on Everwood, also of Heartland), and Taylor Kitsch (of Friday Night Lights) among others go up against former NHL players. Our stars got to play with names such as Cammi Granato, Natalie Darwits, Larry Murphy and Marcel Dionne, just to name a few.
David wore his own jersey for the game - his number “24″ on the back. Robitaille’s stepson Steven R. McQueen played in the game as well. McQueen actually played alongside of Treat Williams in 7 episodes of Everwood and is the grandson of legendary film star Steven McQueen (who has credits such as The Great Escape and the original Thomas Crown Affair). The fundraiser event also featured a silent auction and a VIP party. Robitaille’s foster son Jevon Wilkes was also there. Wilkes said the event was “was really important. When family needs you there, you are there for your family.” He talked briefly about some foster situations, saying “growing up in foster care is problematic and a lot of kids have it ‘worser,’ than me and ‘worser’ is not even a word, but it should be in the dictionary.”
Robitaille said “It’s been a lot of fun… The guys are having fun. It’s been a success.” What a great use of time and talent - and such a good way to have fun! Way to go guys!
